I know Luca is a psychologist and likes to pick and analyze but this review is so unbalanced and I am thankful that AirBnB allows an owners perspective. First off, it is very obsurd that Lucas would say I am "in denial" when upon arrival I expressed to him that the house was not ready and that he never made contact with me to confirm an arrival time. This has never happened in my many years as a guest that someone would simply arrive before confirming verbally with me. Granted, I mistakenly left the Instant Book feature on. However, when I suggested that Luca return after his meal so that I would have time to prepare his room he declared that he had just left another Air BnB host whose accomodations he had rejected due to too many guests and unpleasant surroundings. Since I had just arrived home 30 minutes prior and after the departure of long term guests, as a gesture of kindness and to avoid the $100 cancellation fee imposed on hosts for a $55 reservation per night I was charging, I relunctantly allowed Lucas to stay. I explained that I had arrived with the intention to work on the house for the next several days and was not anticipating him. He looked around and commented that he could find five star hotels in Bangladesh for a very modest rate- which I did not take as a compliment. Since his room was not ready I offered to upgrade him to a much larger room with a private bathroom, pool view, private entrance, fireplace, wood floors, vaulted ceiling and sitting room. Interesting that none of the features of this newly upgraded room with original, modern art was not appreciated. He mentioned the small mattress in his originally booked room was sagging but he did not stop to consider his very overweight build. Yes, there was a marble mosaic stored under the bed in the studio and a couple spots of dust on the wood floor. The desk is not damaged and has a tough laminate surface. I never saw silver fish but I don't discount this rare possibility. Also we were in the middle of a heat wave at the end of August so it would stand to reason that a room with vaulted ceilings would be warmer than the other rooms with less volume. Since all my bathrooms have been newly remodeled in the past two years, the water inside the jetted shower was working fine during and after Lucas left. No one has ever commented on the direction of the shower head as a major problem and which can easily be adjusted with a wrench. There is a small paint imperfection in the central bath due to moisture peeling but nothing horrific. It's odd that Lucas claims I was in such denial but when I hired professionals to help me clean and organize the garage he still made issue to complain that I would spend time cleaning and organizing my home as I planned and expressed. In fact, during this short three day visit I also had a service call from the electrician and appliance man to further suggest to you how off landish are his remarks that the house is neglected and in disrepair. I also find it interesting that my home was in such bad condition and uncomfortable in his mind, but he barely left the entire time and cooked all his meals and used the pool numerous times. Also, the comments from the other guest during this time are positive and that my home was "retreat" like. It's terribly sad that I inconvenienced Luca while I cleaned my home and got back to the condition that reflects my care and concern for the property, but after all it is my home and even five star hotels take time to restore and upkeep their property. All in all, this was a mistake to allow Luca to stay at my home since his expectations were not met and he was not in Bangladesh to appraise the employees of these establishments. I believe my track record of many years as a reputable host speaks volumes over one bad experience.
