This sweet, self contained cottage is adjacent to the Avon River in the small heritage village of Stratford. Famous for its Shakespeare on the River Festival, Stratford is accessible by road or train or by bicycle on the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail.
.The riverside cottage is a separate cosy historic cottage adjacent to our newly built eco home - which is straw bale with earth floors which is set in our permaculture garden. Th cottage is comprised of two main rooms plus the bathroom/toilet. The bedroom is a comfortable space with a queen sized bed, clothes hanging space and bedside lamps. The lounge incorporates a kitchenette with table and chairs and a comfortable leather couch to sit and listen to CDs or read one of the books from the cottage collection. The kitchenette has modern appliances including a bar fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle. Teas and real coffee as well as condiments are provided.
At our doorstep you will find the Stratford Arts trail, which is a delightful 3km walk along the riverbank. It incorporates eight sculptural installations inspired by Shakespeare and created by Gippsland artists. Among these are the Garden for Humanity and the All Abilities Heritage Trail. Stratford has a diverse and cutting edge arts theatre and music community. Nestled at the foot of the Victorian Alps it is a great base for bushwalking, winter snow frolics and for accessing the magnificent Gippsland Lakes.
The Knob Reserve on the edge of town overlooking the Avon River flood plain is of great significance to local local Gunaikurnai aboriginal people.
In the cottage you will find maps and information about the rich diversity of local attractions.
The village of Stratford provides for your every need, with cafes, specialty shops and galleries, country bakery and butcher as well an IGA supermarket and a local pub. The local library has free Wifi and the Courthouse Theatre has live performances and a film club. (URL HIDDEN)
Off street parking is available and also safe bicycle storage onsite. Guests are welcome to use the laundry and by arrangement can use the outdoor wood fired pizza oven and BBQ area in our garden.

While we are happy for guests at the Riverside Cottage to be as private and self sufficient as they prefer, we also are happy to provide conversation and local knowledge.
We provide ingredients for breakfast as a gift to your on your first morning ... a selection of cereals and toast with toppings as well as fruit and yoghurt to enjoy with your morning cuppa.
The local butcher, baker and supermarket provide a delicious range of supplies for subsequent meals. Alternatively enjoy eating at local cafes.
Guests with small children should be aware that there is no fencing between the street and Riverside Cottage.

A strict no-smoking policy applies to Riverside Cottage and the surrounding garden.
