Private bedroom and attached bath, accessed from a private entrance on upstairs floor of 1920s house in a quiet residential neighborhood in Berkeley. Walking distance to the famous Berkeley Bowl and to BART (the local subway system) for easy access to San Francisco.
The pretty, freshly painted bedroom has lots of windows for plenty of natural light. The windows also have blackout shades in case you would like to darken the room for sleeping. The recently renovated private bath is next to the bedroom, and has a tub and shower. The entrance to the unit is private and separate from the rest of the house, up two flights of stairs off the back upstairs balcony.
The bedroom is large (200 square feet) and has plenty of space for a comfortable stay. It has a comfortable queen bed, a plush down comforter, a rocking chair, a large dresser with multiple drawers, a large hutch filled with books and games, a flat screen TV with Netflix and Hulu, a walk-in closet with lots of hangers, an iron and ironing board, and a dressing/makeup area with mirror and hair dryer. There is also a queen sized air bed available that can accommodate two additional guests in the bedroom if desired. Extra towels, linen, and blankets are provided in the dresser drawers. Free WiFi is included.
While there is no full kitchen, there is a refrigerator stocked with drinks and fresh fruit, an electric hot water kettle, and a French press coffee maker. Dishes, utensils, coffee, tea, sugar, cold drinks, and some snacks are provided. The unit also has bistro-style seating for two, with a small table and two chairs, so that you can sit back and relax with your morning cup of coffee.
The recently renovated bathroom has a tub and shower, and is stocked with essentials and more: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, lotion, and toothpaste. The tub and shower area has a separate overhead light, operated by its own switch near the tub. There is also an automatic fan in the bathroom that senses humidity and turns on during a bath or shower and automatically turns off.
The unit is equipped with a combination lock, which can be accessed without a key. The combination is provided in the House Manual, which can be accessed from the Airbnb website after you confirm your reservation. Upon entrance to the unit, you will see a hallway: your bathroom is to your immediate right, and your bedroom is the next right. There are two additional rooms off the hallway which are locked and not to be opened.
Feel free to use the sitting area in the wood-mulched area in front of the cottage pictured in the listing, but the first story deck is for the downstairs tenants' use only. The roof and the area behind the cottage are also off-limits.

The unit is in a residential area, with people living on the first floor, so please contribute to the peace and quiet by refraining from talking loudly/shouting, listening to loud music or TV, or moving furniture, especially at night. Also please remove shoes when entering the unit, as noise from shoes travels below.

Please refrain from smoking, drugs, candles, or fire of any kind.
Please use the provided coasters under any hot or cold drinks placed on wood surfaces to prevent water rings.

To prevent clogs, please flush *only* toilet paper down the toilet (no paper towels, Kleenex, feminine hygiene products, food, etc.). If a clog occurs, DO NOT continue to flush. Flushing may cause overflow and water damage to the unit below. Please contact me for repairs.
Please always lock the front door and close the windows upon leaving.
I'm a Berkeley native in my early 40s and have lived in this house since 1998. I've been working on the house ever since then, making many improvements over the years (including the addition of solar panels). I graduated from Rice University in 1996 with a double major in math and physics, and have worked in the electrical and mechanical engineering fields since then. I like to tinker in my spare time, and I'm usually working on a couple of different inventions at any given time. I enjoy biking, camping, kayaking and cooking experimental foods.
