The back yard Avocado Cottage is centrally located in the historic Shenandoah neighborhood, walking distance to Calle Ocho. and a short drive from most of Miami's hot spots. The bedroom has a queen size bed and small pull-out couch. The living area has a kitchenette to prepare simple meals. The porch is perfect for lazy brunches, or to work on your laptop as you enjoy the garden. The main house (Tropical Mango House) is also on Airbnb.
Everything in the cottage was fully restored in 2016.
This backyard Avocado cottage was built in the late 1930's and we recently restored it. We named it after the avocado tree in the yard, and painted it an appropriate avocado-green color!
We are often working on the landscaping and on improvement projects.
The cottage is freshly painted inside and out and most everything was redone. It has a main living area with a kitchenette, a bedroom, a bathroom and a covered porch. There is no door between the living area and bedroom. Please note the Avocado Cottage is not toddler proof or a party place.
*The bedroom: has a Queen size bed, two nightstands, a small couch that folds into a single bed and a relatively large closet. Let us know if you have a
3rd person and we will provide the mattress for the fold out couch. No
need to pack sheets and blankets, we provide those.
* The bathroom: As was typical in this era is small by
modern US standards, but has been just fully redone, in period style. It
has a shower, not a tub. We will provide towels, a hair dryer, shampoo/
*The Kitchenette has everything you need to prepare simple meals:
microwave, hot plate, toaster oven, coffee maker, dishes and pots.
*The front porch: has a table with chairs, so you can enjoy outdoor dining any time! There is also an electrical outlet if you want to work on your laptop outdoors.
We recently put in dozens of Florida Friendly plants, including many to attract butterflies and birds. As is typical of subtropical areas, the yard is full of lizards and other friendly wildlife, its fun to watch them.
This cottage is located in the back yard of the property. The whole cottage and cottage porch is for the Avocado Cottage guests, and the yard and the laundry is shared with the main house (Tropical Mango House), which is also on AirBnB. There is access to the cottage from the back of the property on SW 11th Terrace. Avocado Cottage guests can park on that street. This will give you direct access to the Cottage and avoid having to walk through the porch of the main house.

We currently do not live in the main house; but we are there often, almost daily, and live just a few blocks away. One of us will meet the guests at arrival, and can offer tips on what to see, where to eat, and any other questions. Our big friendly dog Kango regularly comes with us to the house to keep us company while we work. He loves meeting new guests and is quick to make friends.
Being an Airbnb host is something we love and take pride in. We have had great conversations, gone out with our guests to the Everglades, the New World Symphony, diner and drinks. Other guests prefer to do their own thing; we love that too.
We are avid gardeners and spend some time tending to the topical plants, weeding or planting more butterfly and bird attracting plants. if you see us there feel free to ask us about the plants, lizards and butterflies. We do not spray any pesticides in garden or house. We are very environmentaly concious.
We want you to enjoy your stay at the Avocado Cottage while also respecting our property.

Kiki and Balazs
I am engineer from Europe. I have owned the house in Plantation since 2003 and my girlfriend Kiki and I bought the house with the Avocado Cottage in 2015. I do engineering consulting work, which has me traveling often. Kiki does environmental education - she is a good person to ask about native flora and fauna, and eco-tourism.
I am also into the outdoors, I enjoy dragon boating, scuba diving, hiking, kayaking, sailing, biking, and camping. And of course I love to travel.
