Marcia's home is a very nice place to stay on the island. When we arrived to the home Jennie was there to welcome us with a warm smile and pleasant personality! She took us through the home and answered any questions that we had. She was very helpful throughout our stay. The home is as described and what the pictures show. I would recommend stopping by a store and getting food/snacks as the home is not near a lot of walkable restaurants, but there are places within a short taxi drive. Marcia was great & quick with her communication from the time of booking, through the end of our stay. The home is in what we were told by locals was the more upscale part of the island. The beach is less than 10 minutes walking distance from the home. It is clean and problem free. There are water activities there, as well as food and a bar. It was always easy for us to get local transportation as it was within walking distance of the home, and transportation was available throughout the night. I would stay at Marcia's place again, and I recommend it for others.
Two friends and I just stayed at Marcia's villa near Paynes Bay. We were greeted by Jenny who showed us around the place and was so kind and helpful. As we were leaving to try our first attempt to figure out the bus we ran into Anne-Marie briefly who works for Marcia. She is very friendly and gave us some quick tips for the bus. Sadly we didn't have a chance to run into her again as we spent most of our time out and about because of our short stay we wanted to be outside as much as possible. EVERYONE in Barbados is so friendly and helpful. We had set up a tour and were to be picked up at hotel that (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps said was right on our corner but really it was just a 5 minute walk down the main Rd. Locals saw our puzzled faces and quickly came to happily point us in the right direction and one even began to walk with us to the destination to make sure we found it. Don't hesitate to ask for help or receive help. At the end of Laynes Rd on Hwy 1 you can catch a bus to go towards Bridgetown. There you will find Baxter Rd and alot of boat tours, snorkeling tours and Pirates Cove is a nice beach with friendly staff. The water is calmer down there as well which is great for swimming. If you go to pirates cove and want to do a snorkeling tour with sea turtles ask for Shan, John and or Vincent. It's cheaper than booking something through the jolly roger website. You can also take the bus north 7 minutes and will find a grocery store and more restaurants. Also if you go a bit farther up like 3/4 minutes more you will find a bar called The Golden Anchor and they do different activities each day like trivia and karaoke on Saturday. Even if you don't do Karaoke if you go I BET you will have a blast. The crowd is a great mixture of locals and visitors with great price drinks and delicious food. BUS TIPS: There is no map or bus schedule so if you go to a bus stop know it could take like approx. 10 minutes give or take. They stop running as often after midnight. You're better off getting a cab. Generally it's about every 15 minutes that the bus runs and they cost $2 Barbados dollars (that is 1 USD but they only accept Barbados dollars). The yellow ones are own privately and are more flexible in the sense they stop wherever and even if you aren't at a bus stop you can wave them down and they will pull over. Also if you don't have exact change lets say only 5 Barbados dollars they can give you change. There is a man who is usually standing in the doorway and he is the one that collects the money. However just...
My family and I stayed here in June 2017. We had a lovely time. The house is just as it in the pictures. We had our 6 month daughter with us and a travel cot and high chair was provided. Both Anne-Marie and Jenny were available to answer any questions whilst we were there. Jenny comes in weekly to clean and change the linen/towels. To our pleasant surprise there were also beach towels available for our use. The beach is less than 5 mins walk and the bus stops either towards speightstown, Oistins or Bridgetown is a 2 minute walk at the bottom of the road. The living room does get hot as a previous poster stated however this can dealt with by having either the front door or back door open to let in a breeze. As such we did not find this a problem. Stayed for 5 weeks and I would most definitely recommend this property.
Marcia's villa is a very spacious, 3 double bedrooms with two good sized bathrooms. We found that the kitchen was well equipped to prepare food for breakfast, lunch & dinner for 6 people. There is a lovely big fridge freezer too. The gas hob was great, however, we found the oven cooked very slowly, maybe we are not used to a gas oven! There is a good sized dining area to eat in at night and 2 very comfortable sofas to relax on at the end of the day. The garden at the back is lovely, once the parasol over the garden table is fixed it will be a good place to sit and eat lunch together. (Marcia is arranging for this to be done.) It is in a really good location a short 10 min stroll to Paynes Bay where you can swim with turtles, rent sunbeds and umbrellas. It also has a small beach bar and snack bar. The yellow buses stop just at the end of the road and run very frequently. There is a very good, well stocked, supermarket about 10 mins on the bus which is open till late each day apart from Sundays. We had an issue with the water the first few days that we were there and Anne-Marie & Jennie arranged for it to be looked at and the problem solved very quickly. We would not hesitate to recommend Marcia's villa.
