This is a quaint village tucked away from the hustle and bustle. There is a lovely bar on the water with a great view, however, all the tours leave from Ponta Delgada, and that is the hub of the island. If one is looking to take tours, it will require public bus or renting a car, as a taxi will be too expensive (5 euros to get to ponta Delgada by bus, versus 40 euros one-way for a taxi--though the downside of the bus ride is that it takes 2 hours). Emanuel was able to tell us when the bus will be there, but we found the schedule online just to be sure.
Our taxi driver had a hard time finding the apartment, so for reference, it is across from the hospital and near sol-mar grocery store.
Generally, Emanuel's place was very clean and conveniently located. Though there isn't air conditioning, there are a couple fans and it gets cool at night, so it's not so bad. The apartment was stocked with necessities (toilet paper, soap, maps, blow dryer!) and towels, which was great. Emanuel was pleasant and could be reached by phone or text. There's also small zoo-type enclosure nearby that was fun to visit in the evenings :-).
