You will be staying on the ground floor of a traditional Savoyard farmhouse.
It consists of an entrance door to the kitchen, a shower room with WC, a bedroom with door, 2 bedrooms with curtains, a living area separate from the kitchen with TV. We live above the farmhouse in a flat but we do not have children or noisy animals.

Prostor
You will be staying on the ground floor which is the traditional living space of a large savoyard farmhouse. It is cool in summer and warm in winter courtesy of its thick stone walls. The farmhouse consists of front door entrance to the kitchen, shower room with WC, 1 bedroom with door, 2 bedrooms with curtains in the lounge area, separate from the kitchen, with a TV, DVD player and freeview tv satellite. We live above the gite in an apartment but we don't have children or noisy pets. Although the cat has a 30 minute sprint around the house everyday you would barely hear the soft thuds as he hits the furniture. A table and two chairs are available on the terrace, and a pinic bench, garden room furniture and BBQ are at your disposal in the garden under the cherry tree, where you can take in the full mountain experience. We have sleeping space for 6 people: In winter this can be a cosy, but we've had plenty of groups stay who have found it to be adequate.

Gdje ćete biti

Le Petit-Bornand-les-Glières, Rona-Alpe, Francuska

The farmhouse was built in the 1870's shortly after the area become part of France (and not Switzerland or Italy). The farmhouse door opens out to the very quiet road running through the hamlet. The hamlet of Termine is very friendly and you will have neighbours wishing you 'bonjour'. There is a mixture of housing in the area, some very old and some not-so.

You can access walking routes immediately from the house, including routes with overnight stops in the areas auberges. If you wish to a walk other than a round trip either to or from the gite we can help with transport.

Out of the immediate neighbourhood of the farmhouse the resorts of Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz offer a wide variety of activities for young and old, including skiing in winter, trampolining, tennis, crazy golf, golf driving range and golf course (La Clusaz - Les Confins), quad bike rides and Segway to name only a few. Medieval Annecy is a spectacular place to visit and swimming in the lake is a must-do in summer. There is a lot to choose from!

Recycling:
In France we are able to recycle most waste very easily. The recycling in Termine is situated near the small bridge. You will see a collection of colour coded bins at the side of the road. All cardboard containers need to go in the bin with a blue top. Green is for glass, yellow for plastic and metal. All other waste goes in the brown topped bins in plastic bags.

Washing machine:
There is a key in the kitchen (large old key) for the laundry room (access from exterior of the hoouse) which is situated at the end of the farmhouse near the parking (in between the house ad the barn). This machine is for your own use and washing powder is provided. Please do not use water conditioner as it's not great for the septic tank. There is a drying rack her also. You can dry clothes either on the rack in the laundry, in front of the gite or on the clothes line in the garden.

Dryer:
Drying rack provided in the laundry room.

TV:
Silver satellite receiver - British TV
Black satellite receiver - French TV

Places to explore:

There is a local map and a tourist guide (in French and English) provided. There are tourist information offices in both Le Grand Bornand and in La Clusaz. Both are found near the main squares in each village. They have information on walking tours, biking tours, facilities and ideas for visits.

La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand are both beautiful mountain villages. The markets are on Monday in La Clusaz and Wednesday in Le Grand Bornand. The markets are expensive! They are designed to catch out tourists. I mean this in the nicest possible way. You can visit, take in the atmosphere and see the local produce but if you do want to get some of the local produce you can do this more cheaply at the supermarkets in St Pierre En Faucigny (Bi1 near the station) or on the way to Thones from St Jean de Sixt (Intermaché).

...........................................................................
Le Petit Bornand:
A small but functional village! Two restaurants, both serving good, low key food. The burgers at Chez Susanne are great! Also a range of local food (raclette, fondu) but (as you will find anywhere in the area) very pricey. At the farmhouse you will find a raclette machine and a fondu set, so you can always buy a selection of raclette cheese elsewhere and enjoy at home.

There is a market in Le Petit Bornand at the bakery on Sundays. This is an excellent oportunity to buy really good local cheese. The farmer's wife produces a great variety of the local cheese including Reblochon (called le Borniand at the stall), tomme and other fresh cheeses. She's started doing a variety of flavoured cheese including carvi (a wild meadow cumin), thyme (pronounces 'tam'), wild garlic and fenugreek (my favourite!).

The fruit and veg at this market are extortionate and not great quality. Useful if you would just like some fresh fruit for yor Sunday breakfast but you will save a fortune going elsewhere for you holiday needs.

There is a grocers in Let Petit Bornand just after the bakery on the left. Same parking as for the bakery. Expensive but useful if you've just run out of something!

...........................................................................
Supermarkets:
Bi1 - a great little supermarket 10 mins from the farm in St Pierre En Faucigny. They do a great selection of fish and meat. Fish is sustainably sourced (which is getting better in France but is still relatively rare) and the meat is ethically produced (free range), including their ready-prepared meat dishes on the butcher's counter. Their fruit and veg is not the greatest. It's typical in France to have to visit a couple of supermarkets to get good produce.

Fresh - greengrocers in Bonneville. Excellent variety of very fresh fruit and veg and at a great price. They also stock dairy and meat although the meat is not as good as Bi1 and is much more expensive.

Intermarché - located on the road towards Thones from St Jean de Sixt, this supermarket packs a punch! Great fruit and veg, excellent butcher and cheap for everything else including local produce.

Annecy: This is a must visit if you have time. Annecy is a medieval city with a wonderful, clear glacier-formed lake. The city is known as the Venice of the alps and for good reason. The medieval city is criss crossed by clear canals along which are many shops selling local produce and gifts. You can eat in one of the many excellent restaurants alongside the canals. A trip around the lake by boat is also recommended as you will learn some of the history of the place. Restaurants on the boats are available at lunch time and dinner but they are much less value than e restaurants alongside the canals.
You can also drive around the lake and visit the many quaint villages on the east side of the lake.

...........................................................................
Walking: there are so many opportunities for walking in the area we cannot mention all of them!

Two very easy routes are immediately accessible from the gite.

If you walk along the road in front of the gite to the right you can enjoy some amazing views of the valley. Around 1 hour there and back -suitable for young children.

The second route is also an out and back although the both of these suggestions can be made into something much longer by using the map provided. Turn left out the farmhouse this time. At the first junction there is a turn left up the hill. Follow the road until you reach the woods and continue up until you reach a junction on non- tarmaced tracks. Follow the path to the left and this will bring you, after a small climb up hill, to a reasonably flat path again suitable for young children. If you continue right to the end of the track you can continue through the woods and create a circuit of a variety of lengths spending on if you cross over to the other side of the valley. Alternatively you can turn around and head back enjoying the views out towards Geneva on the return leg. You can also drive to the off-road junction and walk from there if you have particularly young children or just don't fancy the trog up the hill!

Walks are available from short car drives at Cenise, opposite the gite in the village of Beffay and from the Plateau des Glières. All three include the opportunity to eat in mountain restaurants.

Other good places to walk are:
the Beauregard plateau in La Clusaz from Col de la Croix Fry
From le col des Aravis in La Clusaz with fantastic views of Mont Blanc
Les Confins in La Clusaz
From the col de la Colombière in Le Grand Bornand
