Walk to downtown Nevada City! Beautiful, newly remodeled home right on Deer Creek. Enjoy private and quiet natural surroundings with a large deck overlooking the creek, and a tastefully appointed modern home with all the amenities. Heaven!
This is a sunny, serene and magical place for relaxation, recreation and retreating. Sip wine on the deck or enjoy a cocktail, but this is not a party house. :-)
Please treat my home and land with love and respect. It is a very special place. The house isn't child proofed so it isn't a good fit for young children.
Enjoy the whole house, as well as the deck and lush yard. You can also swim in Deer Creek, which you can see from many rooms in the house. Enjoy the cool breezes that blow through the creek area.
There are 3 bedrooms plus a loft, the master bedroom has a king size bed and the other two bedrooms have queen beds; the 4th bedroom is a 2nd floor loft overlooking the living room. The loft bedroom is spacious, light and bright, with one or two twin beds in it.
PLEASE NOTE: The small hot tub in not for guest use. It is an older model and doesn't have the filtering capacity for guest use.

Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have any problems, questions or concerns. You can call or text my mobile phone at anytime, day or night. (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).
Please note that there is a totally separate attached studio apartment on the property, with a separate entrance.
You can wade in the creek right by the meadow. If you want to swim in deeper water, simply head downstream a short distance. You will find places to swim, and even a large swimming hole on the other side of the dam a short distance downstream. The creek is a public water way, so enjoy!
The closest river access is at the Hwy 49 Bridge. You can swim right at the bridge, or hike a short distance to Hoyt’s Crossing, which is a really great spot. You can even skinny dip there.
My personal favorite restaurants are New Moon Cafe, Lefty’s Grill (right down the street with a great creekside patio), Sopa Thai (with a great patio) and California Organics (there is a small health food store there too). There is also a great health food co-op in Grass Valley called The Briar Patch. They have a nice deli and eating area outside.
Welcome! Please make yourself at home, relax, and enjoy the abundance of quiet and beauty. Here are a few tips to help you feel more at home and have a comfortable, hassle-free stay.
The most important things first! Help yourself to a welcoming bottle of wine. Reds are in the wine shelf, whites are in the refrigerator. Your choice. Wine glasses are in the cabinet behind the wine shelf.
Candles, Fire, and Smoking
This is a no smoking property, inside and out. Do not light any fires or candles on the property. This is a high fire danger area in the summer.
Even though Sweet Water Sanctuary is only 1/2 mile from downtown Nevada City, this is a country property. The house is on a septic system. We have never had any problems with the septic system, but we treat it gently. Please conserve water as much as possible to keep from overloading the system. Enjoy the new, oversized bathtub upstairs, but please don't fill it all the way up to the top.
Do not put anything (even kleenex or flushable wipes) down the toilet except toilet paper.
The property is well insulated and is kept cool by the breezes that flow abundantly by the creek. The house does not have air conditioning, but it is kept cool by the fans in the house. Both fans are turned on by wall switches. The living room fan has a remote to control the fan speed. The remote is on the top of the wine shelf in the kitchen. The speed of the fan upstairs is controlled by the pull strings on the fan.
To keep the house cool on hot summer days, it is important to open the windows at night to cool the house down, and close them in the morning before it gets too warm. Adjust the fan speed as needed. This works really well. On hot summer days, even if the house is a bit chilly in the morning, resist the temptation to turn on the heat. You will be glad later in the day.
Due to drought conditions we do not water the meadow during the summer. There is a basket of sunscreen, insect repellent and other summer supplies in the entry. Feel free to use them while you are at Sweet Water.
Help yourself to the tea and coffee on the counter, and any food in the fruit bowl on the counter. Please do not eat food from the pantry. And please do not eat any of the fruits and vegetables growing on the property, wild or cultivated. There are blackberries growing along our road in the summer if you want a taste of wild fresh berries.
Sadly, there have been burglaries in the area. Please close the downstairs windows and lock the doors when you leave, even for a short time.
I ask that you only have the number of guests at the house that are listed as overnight guests on your reservation.
Guest Air Bed
This is one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on. You can adjust the bed by adding more or less air so that it is just right for you. There is a simple on/off inflating switch at the foot of the bed to add more air if it is needed. The instructions are also at the foot of the bed.
Protect the Beauty
This is a shoes free house. Please respect this to maintain the beauty of the hardwood floors and new carpeting. Please use the coasters that are all around the house to protect the furnishings.
The remote for the IPod speakers is on the top of the wine shelf in the kitchen. Enjoy!
Master Bedroom Closet
There is a closet for guest use on the creekside of the master bedroom, near the head of the bed. Please do not use the other closets in this room.
The microwave is hidden away in the pantry. There is no garbage disposal, please keep the sink strainer in the sink at all times and periodically empty it into the trash can. The rear pull out trash bin is for recycling.
Please do your own dishes and kitchen clean up while you are here. There is a dishwasher that makes this really fast and easy. Throughly rinse your dishes and put them in the dishwasher (except for knives and wooden bowls). Thanks!
