A roofed terrace wraps this contemporary home with views of Arenal Lake, Arenal Volcano, jungles & tropical gardens. You will hear a jungle river in the distance lulling you to sleep every night. ONLY ROOM FOR TWO. 1 bedroom, 1 bed, 2 baths, kitchen, living & dining room. US plumbing. On demand Hot water everywhere. Private. Perfect for Honeymooners! Perfect for bird lovers! Perfect for hikers and nature lovers! Perfect for you!
When we bought this lot 3 years ago, I described the view as “The most beautiful view I had ever seen." Standing on the property...about 3 acres...the Arenal Volcano dominated the landscape. And in the same view, there was Lake Arenal...not to be outdone, in front of the lower part of the volcano, was the jungle...with a river, sight unseen, singing it's song 24/7. We bought the property the day we saw it. We built a beautiful contemporary home, with what you would expect in an American home...on demand hot water in every room, American plumbing where you can actually flush the toilet paper, screens on the windows and fans on the ceilings. The bedroom is air conditioned, although in the 1.5 years we have been here we have never needed it. Fresh air is welcomed into the house so inside or out you can take advantage of the amazing Costa Rica weather. Come along on a verbal tour.
After you park your car in the carport, you will walk through the first of 7 hand carved doors (all designed from photos the owner has taken.) You are astounded by the view provided by the floor to ceiling glass walls that let you be a part of nature. Your dining room table is hand made from a tree trunk slab as the top and a root section as the base. The kitchen features a gas stove with 2 ovens, a large refrigerator/freezer, a walk-in pantry, coffee maker, rice maker, blender, mixer, food processor, toaster and most every other gadget you will need to cook absolutely fabulous meals. Your flat screen TV (with a satellite connection and some English programming) can be watched from the leather couch or from two comfortable chairs with ottomans. The chairs swivel 180 degrees to let you look outside through the floor to ceiling tinted windows while reading or relaxing. Your terrace wraps around the house giving you perfect views of Arenal Volcano, Lake Arenal, Arenal National Park and the Children's Eternal Rainforest. A stairway leads to a private tropical garden with walking paths for you to enjoy the plantings and fauna. There you will find banana trees, wonderful eatable red hibiscus you can pick for your salads or tea, many flowering tropical plants, hummingbirds, flycatchers as well as tanagers...a wonderful place to linger. Back through the house there is a tiled carport (another nice place to sit and relax) with completely different views. As part of the first floor amenities there is a full size guest bath with a '"hot water" shower and beautiful glass art-deco sink.
Heading upstairs to your bedroom, you will find a Queen size bed (both the bed and mattress are new this year.) You have another flat screen TV with Satellite connections. Your bedroom has a walk out covered terrace, a perfect place for sunrise and sunset, as well as a cup of coffee,or tea, or a glass of wine. Wake to the sunrise lighting the volcano with amazing colors. Watch the clouds rise from the forest floor (we are at the 2400 foot dividing line between the rain forest and cloud forest). Your view from the upstairs terrace takes in the jungle, lake and volcano. Your bath has an wonderful walk-in rain shower that blesses your body with spring water, heated by an on-demand water heater. There is a walk-in closet for your use as well.
Without even starting your car, you will be able to walk to our private waterfall, (we even have boots you can wear), hike the Monkey man Trail where we see monkeys about 60% of the time during an early morning walk, walk our under development trail that leaves the back of our garden off the terrace and goes down the big hill and into the Jungle...go horseback riding and/or rent kayaks through Parrot Hill, walk to supper at a wonderful restaurant (Agustin's Restaurant at Nepenthe), hike and watch the wildlife. We have been visited by three kinds of toucans, howler monkeys as well as spider monkeys, and have our "white hawks" circling. Many birds and insects can be found if you take the time to look. Otherwise a snuggle on the terrace, catch a quiet moment of serenity, or catch up on that book you have wanted to read. The air is fresh and clean, the water is tasty, and the setting is amazing.
PLEASE NO SMOKING IN THE HOUSE OR ON THE TERRACE. If there is the smell of cigarettes, Pipes or cigars anywhere, your entire security deposit will be forfeited and you may be billed for additional cleaning. We are renting you our home, and since we also live here, we have locked off our master suite and our office. The laundry is also locked off, but if you need laundry done, we will do it for you for a reasonable rate per pound. Just ask. There is a locked outside door where personal tools and supplies are kept. If you need something fixed, ask. Someone will give you a hand. Please, enjoy our home. Please feel free to roam everywhere. We love garden visitors, the paths you see are all available for your use, even outside of our area. walk to our private waterfall, to the jungle (but remember, it is a jungle with bugs, snakes and critters). If you are walking off the roads and trails, wear the tall rubber boots, long pants take a walking stick and be careful. This is NOT a walk in the city park.

It is unlikely we will be nearby while you are here, but you can reach us anytime by email if there are problems or something is not to your satisfaction. We do have a manager, Edwardo, right up the hill from you. He has lived in Costa Rica his whole life, he speaks English and owns the B&B at Parrot Hill. You will will be greeted when you arrive and checked you out as you depart. Each morning, at a time you select in advance, our cook/housekeeper will prepare breakfast for you. The fruit will be largely organic, the eggs from free range chickens, milk, if desired fresh. Coffee will be Costa Rica grown. Lemon Grass Tea is available on request...of course grown in our garden. Edwardo will also help you make reservations for any activities you want to participate in...Zip Lining, hanging Bridges, rafting, kayaking, hiking, eating, hot springs and much more. Use thim, as he knows the very best places for any activity you want to participate in...and you pay exactly the same price if you try to do it yourself or have them do it for you. Edwardo is available by phone, text or a short walk away. You can also drive up the driveway to their house. You will find a red binder in the house when you arrive. Inside you will find everything you need, telephone numbers, locations, names, information on how the house works, lists of our favorite places to eat, play and visit. You can spend a lot of time in this area and still have more to see and do. They will not come to you while you are here unless you ask, and Lillian will be here only to do her housekeeping duties.
Please remember, we are only set up for 2 guests. You will have lots of room to do as you wish. You have neighbors...two B&B's each about 2 blocks away. There are no shades on any of the windows, so we tend to go to bed early and rise early. The views are just too magnificent to cover with cloth. And no one is near you to see in anyway. Please consider a 4WD vehicle. the 10KM road from the paved road leading to the Arenal National Park entrance is gravel and often rutted and if raining, it will be muddy. On this road you will pass the park entrance and drive about 8KM almost to El Castillo. then a 1.2KM drive to our house. That road is up hill and also often challenging, especially in wet weather. Can it be done with a small sedan...probably, but you will be a lot happier with a 4WD vehicle.
One more thing...if you drive from San Jose airport, plan on 4.5 hours minimum to arrive at our house. YOU DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE AT NIGHT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN TO COSTA RICA BEFORE. So plan to arrive at the airport by Noon. We know, looking at a map, that you believe you can get here a lot quicker...trust us. We have made the trip many times and it takes 4 to 4.5 hours to get here. Let us know your flight plans as soon as you can. If you cannot arrive by 6PM, consider spending a night near the airport or part way here in San Ramon.
We welcome you as guests in our home. We are sharing our furnished home with you, and know you will feel more at home here when you travel. We hope you enjoy the house, the grounds and all this part of Costa Rica has to offer, and will care for them as if they were as important to you as they are to us. No Pets, No smoking...inside our home or on the terrace. Only two people allowed.
Od 1. Prosinac 2017. - 7. Siječanj 2018. minimalni boravak je 3 noćenja.

Susan and I are retired. We love to travel, and about 3 years ago spent 8 weeks in Costa Rica. We fell in love with the climate, the people, the wildlife, the peace and quiet, the escape from the hectic pace and political fighting of the US. 2 days before we left, we discovered what I described as "The most beautiful place I had ever seen." there was a piece of property for sale and the day before we left, we made a commitment to buy. A year later we began construction (we blog about the building process at (treefi The house is pretty much finished and we decided to share our unique property and home with select others...sorry, only two at a time. We continue writing about Costa Rica and Florida and other times and places (tree John is a serious photographer and Costa Rica is a photographer's paradise. While John snaps the camera, it is Susan who provides an amazing eye, sighting birds, noticing flowers, seeing things that will make beautiful photos well before John sees them.
