We had the most amazing time here. Just sitting out on the terrace taking in that view made us feel like we were on some amazing 60s film set.
Things we liked and one we didn't - popping down to the lake first thing in the morning to take the canoe out, finding different shady spots to eat for each meal, working on those thighs, 118 steps down to the lake, lovely relaxed house, mosquitoes, swimming, sailing, Tomar, Convento de Cristo, walking with dinosaurs, the view, the view, the view, did I mention the view, the lake, Maria Alice and Carlos who greeted us and were always available if we had any problems, the cool of the evenings, the stars, the wind in the trees - what a soundtrack, the jangada - a little floating boat house in the lake.
We also celebrated our son's 19th birthday whilst we were there and went to Bela Vista in Tomar for lunch. A lovely shady terrace with beautiful views.
We loved every minute, we were far more active than usual on holiday. This year I managed 1 book! So much to do without ever leaving the property but when you do there is so much more to see.
I would seriously consider satnav next time. I love maps but there are an awful amount of roads that didn't feature on any map I could find. The locals are lovely, I went into a bar to ask for directions to the dinosaur footprints, after much head scratching and looking at the map a lovely man insisted on leading us. We then embarked on the craziest drive through a whole series of little villages following his truck until he pulled over and explained the last five minutes of the journey. He put his arm around me and wished us all Boas Ferias! There again if we had satnav none of the above would have happened.
