Two separate reviews will be conducted here. One for the host and one for the location.
To start things off, the host was great. Davis responds very quickly and is an all-around great guy. I told him we were a bit short on toilet paper and he brought over the necessities in an hour. I asked him if he had aluminum foil in the Airbnb and he had a brand new pack for me before lunch. He provided beer for us in the refrigerator and left the cabinets full of utensils and food (some were expired (recently), but it's the thought that counts). Basically, if you had something you needed, you could count on Davis if it was within reason. As a host, 5/5.
The Airbnb is where it gets a bit dicey. The interior is cozy, compact, and very well furnished. However, due in part to its location and its proximity to the trees, I expected a lot of bugs and that is what I encountered on the first night. Davis provided some fogger which we used to exterminate all/any bugs within the apartment. Since the first night, we did not have any problems with bugs on the inside.
At night, the area can look a little sketchy. The street is not well lit and the bamboo trees pounding on the side of the Airbnb gives the illusion that someone is walking up the stairs to the Airbnb. Unfortunately, this might have actually happened on our last night. On the last night, my girlfriend's car (which was parked in the driveway) was broken into. Thankfully, nothing of value was stolen.
Fortunately, the positives of the Airbnb greatly outweigh the negatives we encountered. My girlfriend and I had a great time due in part to the responsiveness of Davis to our issues. We were never short on necessities, we never had unaddressed problems, and Davis provided many small touches that meant a lot. For example, he had a map of San Antonio with points of interests that included great restaurants, bars, etc. Essentially, the interior of the Airbnb did make us feel like we were at home.
I recommend Davis as a host and his Airbnb to be a suitable place to stay. Stay with confidence!
