Stunning artist’s house, award winning, and featured in many magazines, The Ceramic House is a work of art in itself. THE PINK ROOM is tastefully furnished, double bed with luxury mattress, and fabulous tiled bathroom. Free parking. Coffee/tea in room. Very quiet. Bus stop right outside for easy transport into centre of town or 20 minutes' walk. Fiveways few minutes walk, with shops, cafes, restaurants. Walking/easy access to South Downs and golf course with views along the coast to Worthing.

This is a truly gorgeous house that I have been working hard on turning into a very special space since I moved to Brighton 10 years ago. I am gradually turning the whole house into a work of art and it is filled with ceramic and glass installations inside and out. You need to see it to believe it! You can have a look on the ceramic house website.

There are 4 rooms available. See my other listings for THE GALLERY ROOM, THE BLUES ROOM and EN-SUITE LUXURY, THE CERAMIC HOUSE.

FREE PARKING! Right outside the house. This as as close as you can get to central Brighton and still have free on street parking.
LOVELY SPACIOUS ROOM within a period house furnished with antiques
DOUBLE BED with luxury mattress
PORTUGUESE BATHROOM, newly refurbished with a walk-in shower with tiles from Portugal and my own range of Portuguese tiles. Please note the bathroom is shared with the Blues Room.
TEA/COFFEE MAKING FACILITIES in the room. We do not provide breakfast, however there are several lovely cafes 5 minutes away at Fiveways.
Lovely linens, furnishings and towels
WIFI in room
BUS STOP OUTSIDE HOUSE for buses straight into town
20 MINUTE WALK into central Brighton
SOUTH DOWNS/COUNTRYSIDE on the doorstep! Hollingbury Golf Course, 5 minutes from the house, brings the country into the city with a finger of green stretching from the South Downs to my house! So walkers can walk straight here off the Downs.

The pink room is a spacious double, which has been tastefully decorated with an lovely antique bed and art deco furniture. There is a fabulous Portuguese tiled bathroom right next door. It has been tiled with antique tiles I brought back from Portugal and my own tile designs.

Since I created the first ceramic installation in the loft, I have installed permanent ceramic installations in nearly every room in the house and all over the garden. It is a Gaudiesque world!

The garden is really gorgeous. It is a double height patio with two terraces completely enclosed with mature climbers and flowers including the best rose bower in Brighton! It is a very private, lovely space full of artwork. Most of the garden has been covered with my tiles and there are four different levels all with lovely ceramic tables and chairs. It is quite magical, especially when the sun shines. I also have a garage (currently awaiting conversion into another en-suite) and front and side gardens.

Every May the house turns into a living gallery and I invite renowned ceramic artists to exhibit their work here. At this time of year, the house is open to the public at weekends only, and it is a fun, buzzy time to be here. The pink room is unaffected and a private space during this time. Every May Brighton hosts the second biggest arts festival in the UK (after Edinburgh). There is so much to see and do, art, music, theatre, dance, comedy, etc. And that's not just during the festival, it's all year round!

I love collecting antiques and vintage, so the whole house is furnished with retro/deco/antiques along with many pieces I have collected on my travels. I also collect art and I have a good collection of original prints and paintings and a lot of ceramics around the house.

The house has everything you need including wireless internet of course. Breakfast is not included but there are several good cafes for breakfast within 5 minutes walk. Laundry facilities available for stays of a week or more. Kitchen facilities available for you to do your own cooking for stays of a week or more.

There is plenty of free parking here on my wide spacious street just round the corner from Fiveways, where there is a shop to suit every requirement. As well as all the shops, there are several lovely cafes/delicatessens and there are some great pubs too not far away.
The number 50 bus stop on my street and takes 10 minutes to get into the centre of Brighton. The 50U goes to the Sussex/Brighton University campuses in Falmer. A lot more buses stop at Fiveways. Walking into the city centre takes 20 minutes or it’s just a 5 minute cycle ride.

At the end of my road is Hollingbury Woods and the Golf Course, which is where the South Downs begins...only 5 minutes to the best views in Brighton and nature at its best! I love walking up there. I feel very privileged to have such close access to such fabulous nature.

The South Downs is Britain’s youngest national park and the South Downs Way is a long distance walk and one of Britain’s national trails, running for 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne. It is very popular with walkers, and can be travelled on bicycle or horseback.

Brighton has many attractions, including the absolutely over-the-top exuberance of The Royal Pavilion (my favourite), the famous Brighton Pier, the beach (which I go to as often as the sun shines) and I can tell you where the best beaches are. Brighton is great for cycling around, or just walking, taking in the Lanes and the wonderful traditional pubs.

There are so many festivals, there seems to be something happening every weekend, including all kinds of music, comedy, food, film festivals. Brighton is an end-destination for many races and vehicular rallies. Any random day you might see endless arrivals of minis or VWs or vintage cars or bikes… There is also the London to Brighton bike ride every year. All these events all end up on Madeira Drive, a promenade along the beach.

I can give you all the information you need if you are an art lover. The Brighton festival every May is a must-go-to experience. The Brighton Photo Bienniale is the biggest photography festival in Europe.

Brighton is a great place to explore the south coast and London. There are several fabulous art galleries along the coast, including the brand new Jerwood at Hastings, the Towner at Eastbourne and the Turner Contemporary at Margate. All of these places are great for day trips, among many more.

Gatwick airport is 30 minutes on the train from Brighton and Newhaven has ferries to France.

Brighton has two universities. The 50U bus goes to both at Falmer straight from my street. Sussex University is 2 minutes on the train from Moulsecombe, about 5 minutes from London Road. Both stations are 15 minutes walk from the house. Buses from Lewes Road, 10 minutes walk. Brighton University has a campus in Falmer next to Sussex Uni and various other sites, varying between 15 and 30 minutes walk depending on which site. Buses to all sites from Stanmer Villas/Fiveways.

You are most welcome to have a look around the house apart from the other private rooms. There is artwork to see everywhere. The garden has several patios with tables on each one that you are welcome to use, and there is a balcony off the kitchen which is very cosy and a sun trap with another table and chairs. The living room and the kitchen are available to use if you stay 5 nights or more.

I enjoyed my stay here, as did my nan who stayed in the guest house in the garden. The house itself is really beautiful, all adorned in Kay's colourful ceramic artwork. The garden, made up of several terraces, is also all decorated with mosaic work and it's very beautiful. I stayed in the pink room which was nicely furnished, very clean and the colour scheme was lovely; I am a fan of pink! Very cosy, also really comfy mattress and pillows, I slept really well. It's not hard to get to the town centre, with a bus stop just up the road. The neighbourhood is nice, with a bakery near by and a nice Italian restaurant. Also there's quite beautiful woods just up the road, definitely worth checking out. Thanks Kay and Joe! Xx

The house was amazing but sorry to say the bath needed improvement, I didn't want to take a shower and that was an issue for me- sorry

I am delighted to announce that the long-planned bathroom refurbishment has just been completed, and instead of an original enamel bath, which was, admittedly, old and very much in need of replacement, we now have a beautiful walk-in shower. I'm just sorry you missed the new refurb by a mere 2 weeks Kathy! Come again and I'm sure you will be delighted too!

I confess I feel like a bit of a fraud writing a review, as I was barely in the house! Out at a birthday party until late, and then up and out early. I would have loved the chance to explore more in this marvellous and unique house. Although Kay could not be there to greet me, all her communication beforehand and careful instructions made me feel very welcome and looked after. I had a good stay!

This is for those who appreciate a house which expresses the homeowner's original and creative style. Kay is a busy but welcoming host who also shares the love of her craft which is not only in the home but also in her charming garden.

Fantastic place to stay. Mesmerising ceramic work in this artistic residence. Wonderful and super friendly hosts. Super clean and just an interesting place to stay. Very convenient for heading downtown. Absolutely loved it and would leap at the chance to return.

Hi I'm Kay, I am an artist and I have created The Ceramic House since I moved to Brighton in 2008. I am a ceramic artist and I create sculpture for public and private spaces. I live with my partner Joe who is also an artist. He works in sound and performance. We both make a living from our art.

I am originally from Scotland and Joe is from Brighton. There is a very relaxed, friendly vibe here. I love having people to stay and you will feel most welcome and comfortable here. I am easy going, enjoy cooking, barbeques in the summer, the occasional fabulous party, and enjoying life.

I have travelled extensively and can speak various languages so try me! I might speak yours! My travelling style is spontaneous and independent. I always try to speak the local language. My favourite travel destinations are always hot (balmy nights is one of the things I was born for - you'd never believe I'm Scottish, would you?!) and I have spent more time in Latin America than anywhere else.

My mottos are (and I have three!): to be surrounded by beauty at all times; attention to detail and I specialise in enthusiasm! I love dressing up. You should see my treasure chest of costumes I have made (and that's ust one of them! I actually have a dedicated dressing room and another costume closet on top.) Any day is a good day to look fabulous.

Anyone and everyone is welcome who is considerate and friendly. You will find a very helpful, attentive, caring host in me and I guess I should say that Joe is lovely too!
