We were very pleased to host Deloris in our home. She was a perfect guest. The house was left in perfect condition with a couple of small improvements. That's why we gave her five stars as a guest. Thank you Deloris!
However, I'm surprised by the three star rating she gave us as hosts because:
-We got our home in top condition making small repairs, painting where needed, having it professionally deep cleaned, decluttering, and making space
in drawers and closets for our guests' clothes. We spent over $500 and worked hard preparing for Deloris' stay. The house has never been in better shape since we've owned it.
-I gave Deloris a 45 minute in person car tour of our town showing her key restaurants and shops
-Deloris was welcomed into our home with two sets of fresh cut flowers,
one on the kitchen table and one on our living room coffee table
-I bought Deloris and her guests tickets to the July 4th fireworks display
at Shoreline Amphitheatre ($60)
-We treated Deloris to six meals from Blue Apron, a meal kit service with
delicious recipes and fresh, local ingredients ($60)
-We gave Deloris access to our community garden plot to pick fresh
vegetables and berries which were in season
-Deloris requested access to a piano so her daughter could practice. We
arranged that for her with our next door neighbor. Not sure if she took advantage of this, but we went out of our way to accommodate her.
-We also let our neighborhood know that Deloris and her party where
staying in our home. We asked our neighbors to make them feel at home and
expect them in our community garden plot
That said, I understand her complaints. One of our windows was
cracked, though it didn't interfere with the window's operation or safety. And while one of our sliding glass door locks was not working properly, it has a security bar that makes it impossible to open the door when in place. Moreover, this door leads to a secure, fenced-in common area with new, industrial grade locking gates. We explained to her before we left that she shouldn't be worried, that the security bar and secure grounds provide more than adequate safety, that we live in a safe neighborhood, and that we've never had a problem.
Despite these assurances, these seemingly small glitches obviously made her feel uncomfortable. Even though she didn't experience any safety problems, I'm truly sorry for the discomfort she felt. We will make these upgrades before we have another guest.
Nonetheless, we're grateful to have had Dolores as a guest. Thanks again Deloris!
