Cabana Quixote is a thatched wood cabin on a dirt road in the middle of beautiful nowhere. It is a one-bedroom house that has a porch overlooking the mountains of Torti and is a perfect getaway for those looking to explore the countryside on their own terms. Running water, stove, and a fridge provide the basics but this rustic experience will give you a peaceful place to relax and a jumping off point for several adventures in the area - the caves of Lago Bayano (45 mins), San Blas by land (1.5 hrs) or the Darien Park (1.5 hrs). There is easy bus access and keyless entry and local guides can help you ride horses, explore the jungle, or kill a chicken for dinner if that suits your fancy. American owner speaks English Spanish and a little French and is happy to help you with information.

Sleeps 2 comfortably in the bed and 2 more on the futon. Note with 4 people there is little privacy. Contact me if you want to have more than 4.

Bus access is 3.5 hours from Panama City, which includes a 10 minute walk from the highway. Private car access is 2.5 hours from Panama city and gets you right to the door!

Come meditate, see the jungle, do yoga, ride some horses, or just sit in the hammock. The countryside is yours to discover.

This was such a great little place to stay after being stuck in the hustle and bustle of the city for a couple of days. It is far detached from civilization and you have no choice but to relax. It is small and definitely 'rustic' as Drew had said, but has a hot shower, stove and refrigerator which were very convenient. The property has a bunch of banana, orange and papaya trees as well as chickens running around and it would appear that we had adopted a small dog (which we named Baxter) for the length of our stay. There was also some kind of green parrot that hung out in the tree next to the back deck that would make its way to the handrail and hang out with us during breakfast and dinner. It was great! Tips: Use the fan and the mosquito net, they are your friends. This place is completely adorable, but definitely RUSTIC. A giant katydid flew in the bathroom window and landed on my boyfriends face one night and you will definitely find 'guests' at night when you go to turn on the lights. Wash all of your dishes as you use them. Wash them before you use them again. Get everything that you need from the markets in town relatively early. I believe they were mostly closed by 7pm. Enjoy it!!! This was such a unique place to stay. Thanks Drew!!!

This is a great location for exploring the real Panamanian countryside. Not many tourists down this way, which after a month in Bocas, was what we were looking for. This is the Panama you can still get a huge, delicious meal for $3. Torti is famous for leatherwork (hand crafted saddles, belts, sandals, and more!), and the Kuna and Embera people sells their beautiful crafts for a fraction of the price you'd find in other parts of the country. In fact, most of the crafts we found down here we did not find again. The property also backs right up the Kuna Reserve and you can walk into the jungle from here. We also found a medicine man (Naturalista Elias) that has herbal concoctions for whatever ails you.

Our stay at Drew's cabin was the highlight of our trip to Panama. It was peaceful, beautiful, and had just the right amount of space and supplies to make it easy to live in. Drew was very helpful and responsive. This was probably one of my best and favorite places I've stayed on airbnb and I would love to go back to Panama to stay there again!

2 words, RUSTIC & FUN! We enjoyed our time here. The Darien is a very interesting place. If u like getting off the beaten track, and making your own entertainment, you will love it. If u r more of a luxury hotel type this isn't the place for you. Johnny Dominguez and his family ( the caretaker), were super nice and helpful. Took longer than we thought to get there, more like 3 hours, and I am not a big fan of Drews directions. Follow everything EXCEPT the part about seeing the cemetery on your left right before u turn on the street the house is on. It is very, very hard to c the cemetery even when u r looking for it. Instead pass the brewery ( also has Pepsi trucks) on the right, and then just a little past that on the left is a big white church, now get ready to c the cell tower, and turn left on the street right b 4 it. Thanks Drew!

My family and I had a great stay at Drew's cabin. It was super cute and a mellow area. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook comfortably. My kids loved the hammock. With a bed and futon, it was large enough for a family of 4. Papaya and banana trees were full of yummy fruit. Drew answered questions promptly, and offered travel and activity ideas. Unfortunately there was torrential rain for our time there, so we didn't get to check out all the areas we had hoped. I would recommend a stay for anyone wanting to chill out and experience country living.

This place is absolutely sublime. Two of us spent a blissful four days here in early December - relaxing, exploring, cooking, and relaxing some more. The cabin is beautiful and very rustic, with everything you need (and little more, which was great) - including a large covered porch with a gentle breeze, a comfy hammock, and a view of some of the most breathtaking landscape we'd ever seen. We had a car - which I would definitely recommend - and although we had plans early on to take day trips to beaches, etc, we quickly found ourselves choosing instead to stay nearby. Higueronal and Torti both have great shops (check out Daype Bakery just around the corner for wonderful breakfast pastries), and everyone is very friendly. It's an incredibly comfortable and enchanting place to be. Excursions into town and the nearby rainforest filled our days beautifully and had us back on the porch for the sunsets, which were spectacular every evening. Highly recommended - we hope to be back, and soon(URL HIDDEN)

I came to Panama with the Peace Corps and never left - I live in the here and now except when life doesn't let me. In my spare time I enjoy changing my oil, guitar-strumming, and bicycle maintenance. I am a civil engineer and enjoy building things in hard-to-reach places for people who need them. I like to think I've learned a fair amount about the city and more still about the countryside in Eastern Panama and Darien - happy to share that knowledge with whoever needs it.

This is a country of magnificent beauty if you can keep from letting it driving you crazy...
