Looking for a quiet, private mountain getaway? This is the place! Your private deck has a view of Scaly Mountain. You will be comfortable in a large suite complete with refrigerator, coffee, snacks and Continental breakfast. The beauty of solid oak antiques is only surpassed by the comfort of the bed with a memory foam topper, Egyptian cotton sheets and hand made quilt. Within a 15 minute drive of excellent restaurants and shopping in Highlands, waterfalls, hiking and so much more.
Looking for peace and quiet in a rural mountain setting with the amenities of five star restaurants, bars, live performances and shopping just 15 minutes away? This is the place, located just outside of the resort town of Highlands, North Carolina on two acres of mountain property. With an altitude above 4,000 feet, the days are pleasant for biking, canoeing, kayaking, boating, river rafting, zip line, summer and snow tubing, horseback riding, fishing and just relaxing on the deck with a good book. There is no need for air conditioning in the summer at this altitude, but it is available. Be sure to bring a sweater as the evenings are cool. The spring is full of wildflowers, summer days are pleasantly warm, fall is an exquisite rainbow of autumn color and winter can be the most beautiful, with a fresh snow fall.
This renovated barn offers you a private bedroom, bath, living room, laundry room and deck overlooking a native plant garden and the rock face of Scaly Mountain. A small refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster oven and coffee pot offer you the flexibility of dining at home or at one of the many incredible restaurants in the area. The living room is charming with a table set for two in front of a gas fireplace-heater or you can dine by candlelight on the open terrace. We are free from mosquitoes at this altitude so enjoying the private deck is a pleasure. There are ceiling fans in all rooms to keep the fresh mountain air moving. Watch the sunrise with coffee in the morning and stargaze in the evening.
The bedroom is furnished with antiques from the 1800's. The bed is comfortable with a memory foam topper and made inviting with Egyptian cotton sheets, down comforter and a handmade quilt. Also available for your enjoyment are a CD player, wide selection of movies and Internet access. Cell phone service can be intermittent, so use of the land line is available in your suite.
This is a perfect artist retreat, romantic get away or suite for the outdoor enthusiast.
Your host is a world traveler and knows what it takes to make your home away from home a great experience!
I will provide a map to my home. The map below is inaccurate. My home is at the end of MILLER ROAD, not Old Salt Gap Road as the attached map indicates.
The suite is located in the upstairs of my home which is at the end of the road and surrounded by woods. There is hiking and access to the Bartrum Trail nearby.

No smoking inside.
No pets allowed.
You are welcome to peruse the large selection of books, but please leave the books when you depart.
PLEASE do not turn the heat past the low setting, as the pilot light will go out. Feel free to turn it up to make it as warm as you would like.
Thank you for your help with these house rules.
I am an adventurer. I love traveling, meeting new people and exploring different cultures. It is difficult to decide what my favorite destinations are....the spiritual people and beauty of Bali, the magic of the coast of Thailand, the friendly people and ancient ruins of Turkey, the majesty of the Andes in Ecuador or all of the wonderful people and places of adventure and beauty in the United States. I have always wanted to trek in Tibet, study at Findhorn in Scotland, see the Terracotta Soldiers in China and travel through Africa. There is a lot of world to see and so much to learn.
Some of the things I most enjoy that are close to my heart are my spirituality, music, dancing (especially Cajun and Zydeco), cooking, dining, good wines, tennis, reading, gardening, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, snowshoeing and just about anything to do with the outdoors. I have a passionate love of nature and have a deep connection with it.
As a guest I am inquisitive and want to know about the local culture, history, language, religion and see what the local people do, go places that they like and eat foods that they enjoy. The exploration and discovery is what makes traveling fun for me.
As a host, my desire is for my guests to have the most enjoyable experience possible. I want them to feel welcome and at home. I am knowledgeable about the area I live in and will freely share that information. If they have a specific interest I will be more than happy to help them explore it from shopping for antler creations to ziplines. I enjoy having guests and also respect their privacy. I look forward to each new visitor!
