The apartment was just as described. We were a family of 5 and had plenty on room for everyone. Hugo was a great host. He sent us a proposed itinerary tailored to the ages of our children and even left us a bottle of champagne in the fridge. Our 3-year-old especially enjoyed having some toys in the apartment to play with after a busy day. Everything was clean and the heaters inside worked very well. The apartment is not extremely close to many of the main sites in Paris, but it is just around the corner from the metro, so getting around was very easy. The one issue we had was that just across the street, there was an unmarked building that had military guards with massive guns standing guard outside. It just left us a bit uneasy because we didn't know why they were there. All the same, we enjoyed our stay and would gladly return.
Dear Alison, I'm happy that you enjoyed your stay at our appartment. After the attack of Charlie Hebdo and a kosher supermarket in January, it has been decided (check Vigipirate on wikipedia), among other things, that all jewish centers will be guarded by the army till the level of alert decreases. You've also probably noticed plenty of soldier patrolling in turist sites because of this Vigipirate plan. As there is a jewish center in our street, there are some soldiers (not guards) all day long. However, as you've probably noticed our street/neighborhood remains totaly safe. It was a pleasure to welcome you & your familiy and hope that you will have the opportunity to return to Paris for visiting the last main sites of the city.
Clean, spacious and comfortable apartment located in an ethically diverse neighborhood within easy access to many sights in Paris. We stayed in Hugo's apartment for 6 days because my husband attended a conference at the nearby Cites de Sciences, a short pleasant walk along the Canal Saint Martin. The apartment easily accommodated our family of 5 (university aged children) in three bedrooms. The metro stop is only a 5 minutes walk away along a street lined with bakeries great for yummy breakfast croissants and other goodies as well as a creperie for late evening desserts. Hugo is an excellent host and a great communicator for both pre- and post-stay. He was prompt in answering all our questions and sent documents and maps detailing the local restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, attractions, etc. Do eat the delicious food at Le Pavillon du Lac restaurant, recommended by Hugo and located in the nearby beautiful Parc de Buttes Chaumont. If we were to visit Paris again, we would definitely want to stay in Hugo's apartment if it was available.
