This 1914 house is a comfortable retreat. Enjoy a firm double bed in a second floor bedroom, an inviting kitchen, and relaxing front porch. We're in the North Winton area within 2 miles of the Rochester Public Market and George Eastman Museum.
Rochester is full of beautiful old homes. Mine is a modest American four square in a working class neighborhood on the east side of the city.
I did most of the work on the house myself with the help of my mom. Most things I purchased used because I prefer older designs and quality, it is often less expensive, and because I prefer to reuse rather than to buy new.
My house is old. The floors show years of use. Plaster walls are imperfect. Some of my furniture (especially my couch) has been abused by my animals.
I collect things so there are lots of objects, books, and found photos interspersed throughout the house. It's an extension of my art.
If this appeals to you then I think you'll enjoy staying here.
The guestroom faces northwest and is shaded by a linden tree out front. It's a peaceful and relaxing space with a double bed, chair, and a dressing table with mirror. There is also a full-length mirror in the room.
There is a spacious closet where you can store your things. It also contains an iron and ironing board, extra pillows and blankets, and space heater, fans, and a window A/C unit if needed for temperature control.
You will have access to the kitchen, refrigerator, stove, tea, and coffee (French press or percolator). You are welcome to use my washer and dryer (or my clothesline). There is one bathroom in the house and it has a bathtub and removable shower head. You are welcome to use the dining room, living room, front porch, and backyard as well. No smoking in the house but you may smoke in the backyard.

I like to interact with the guests. It's nice to meet new people and hear their stories. I'm also happy to suggest places to visit in the area. I also understand the need for privacy and solitude as I have introvert leanings.
We are usually pretty quiet but we do live here. The dog does bark sometimes. The cats sometimes meow. I grind the coffee beans. Overall I'd say this is a peaceful and restful space.
Vegan household but you are welcome to store your food in the fridge. I usually have a vegetable garden and you are free to pick what you need when it's producing. I tend to have a lot of kale.
The third bedroom is my office and yoga room. You are welcome to use the floor space and yoga props if you'd like.
Play nice. Be respectful. Golden rule. Etc.
I'm an artist. I make photographs and books. I was born a Yooper (in Upper Michigan) but have lived in Rochester longer than anywhere else. I have grown to appreciate many things about this town and am happy to share them with visitors.
Here are a few things I appreciate: art, travel, animals, film, coffee, wet-plate collodion photography, nature, books, thrifting, flea markets, vernacular photography, old things, Indian food, lists, photobooths, mango sticky rice, the Rochester Public Market, Rochester's independent cinemas, bicycles, walking, gardens, community supported agriculture, my front porch, and kind, thoughtful, and open-minded people.
