Come, visit Lake Charles! A quick jump off the I10, seconds from the middle of downtown. Uniquely in transition, a 100 year old house into a Community Monastery for creative minds & spirits.
3 Bikes on property, 3 min ride to lake.
Visit: Famous Stellar Beans for a lite breakfast, stretch&flow at the Yoga Ctr, Luna & Luna Live for music, dining.
* Check out: ~ Guide book will give you plenty of things to do, see & taste ~ if you're still planning, plan to stick around a few days & Experience!
Bunk-beds are in! Front room can now accommodate 4 guests, having more of a 'Back-packer' feel; if you & friends are traveling as a group, two can share the queen bed and two can fight over who gets the top bunk.
If you are a couple traveling, 2 bikes are available in the shed for neighborhood and lakefront bike-rides.
Sheets are clean, though playfully miss-matched, and sparsely flawed.
We are on a usually quiet street, right downtown and just a short 3min bike ride or 10 minute walk to the lake and food!
Most of the house and back yard are yours to enjoy. My dad is the resident artist and has fun playing 'Basquiat' in the back rm. and shed. There is picnic table and fire pit for evening gatherings.

There may be things going on, but like we mentioned, the Common House concept is new. My father and I travel sometimes and are at home sometimes. It's just luck-of-the-draw that we may/may not be able interact.
Also, there is a CommonHouse Cat: 'Bodhi'. Let me know if you have allergies; he can have a play-date over at my house, but still, bring your Benadryl.
There is a cat on the premises, He can be brought home for a play-date if guests prefer not staying with him. If you are allergic to cats, you might want to bring some Benadryl to be safe.
Curb your pets, and kids, don't piss off neighbors, please smoke outside.
It is a very old house, so also 'kokua' go easy on the sensitive plumbing. When retrieving things from your car, be mindful about slamming car-doors abundantly late at night. If you have pets, they must be leashed while on the street and when in the front yard; though, they are free to romp & play in the fenced-in back yard.
~ In the kitchen, there is no Stove vent hood cover, NO FRYING PLEASE.

'Ogden' is the proud proprietor of Common House. It's his three season vacation house and art studio now, too cold in the winter, he goes home to Hawaii where he's lived since the '60's.
We hope to grow CH into an artful and spiritual community of mindfulness and creativity, offering classes in Tai Chi, Yoga and meditation. We hope to even have workshops in acting, writing, art and blogging. Looking forward to having a sizable garden in the back yard someday too.
But all that remains only a vision at present; for now it's a big, beautiful, blank canvas, waiting for splashes of gift and story.
Ogden is a lifetime artist and dabbles in the abstract these days.
We also have a cat named 'Ukiuki' who enjoys Common House when Oggie is there.
We are both from the Oahu originally, so anywhere on the pacific rim is a favorite travel destination. Also Canada and New Zealand hold stunning travel philosophies as well.
I, D'ellen, had planned on staying in Lake Charles for a year ... 10 years ago. I love this town; the biggest little town I know! So Come! . . . Drop in on a Yoga class. Have a Primo Gourmet Hot-dog at Botsky's on Pujo. Or, ride the bicycles along the lakefront at sunsetVisit Lake Charles! The secret is out! :~)
