We completely remodeled the Holmes Cabin in 2012 - it's comfortable, bright and located in one of Missoula's oldest neighborhoods. Walk just 5-15 minutes to visit a local brewery, hike the north hills trails or check out our amazing downtown.
An open floor plan, lots of windows, plus wood and tile floors make the main floor bright, cozy and comfortable. With a very well appointed galley kitchen, the Holmes Cabin is perfect for long-term stays, for business travelers, and for families. The kitchen has everything you might need to feel truly at home (e.g. food storage containers if you will be working in town for a while and want to bring lunches to work; cookie sheets and other baking pans, casserole dishes, mixing bowls, etc.). On the main floor, you'll find one bedroom, a full bathroom, the kitchen and a living/dining area with original softwood floors. The Holmes Cabin has two larger bedrooms downstairs with large windows and good light, another full bathroom, and a washer/dryer. The main floor also has an air conditioner for hot summer days, while the downstairs stays cool all summer long. We have an outdoor patio/lounging area which provides great space for a picnic dinner or BBQ (there's a charcoal grill as well). In addition, we have have an outdoor fire-pan that we can provide (please ask us if if you're interested), which is perfect for summer evenings.
Guests have access to the entire house, porch, yard, patio and off-street parking. We have one bike (with helmet and lock) available. There's high speed internet and a TV/roku (no cable TV). The kitchen is very well stocked with dishes, cutlery, pots, pans, all sorts of cooking and baking utensils and basic spices. Guests also have access to a high-efficiency washer/dryer, and an outdoor line for drying clothes as well.

We live right next door, and, in addition to the written information and guides/resources available in the cabin when you arrive, we will be happy to provide ideas about sightseeing and things to do, directions and information about how to get around, information about trails, and things to do in the natural areas that surround Missoula. If we are in town when you visit, we usually try to stop by meet you and to see if we can answer any questions, but otherwise to provide you with your privacy. We also have a very large garden and in season, we almost always have extra garden produce to share.
We appreciate both short and long-term rentals. If you are traveling to Missoula for a temporary work assignment, for a visiting semester at the University, or otherwise looking for a place to stay for several months, the Holmes Cabin is a perfect home away from home. Please don't hesitate to contact us, we'd be happy to talk with you about rental options for 1-6 months
No pets, no smoking. And because this is a residential neighborhood, we request that you respect our neighbors (including us), by keeping noise down after 10 pm. We also request that people not wear shoes inside to help us maintain the original wood floor, and we do provide slippers. We have a written "guide" to the cabin providing details and other useful information.
My husband Marcel and I love to travel, hike, bike, and spend time outdoors. Marcel is a research ecologist/wildlife biologist with Montana State University (even though we live here in Missoula) and I've spent 20+ years working in grassroots conservation and restoration in the Western United States and internationally. Marcel is passionate about nature photography - some of our travels are dictated by his crazy photography excursions. He's originally from the Netherlands, so Dutch is his native language (I've learned enough Dutch to get by, as well). After spending nearly 5 months in Brazil in 2014, we both speak Portuguese functionally (definitely not beautifully). Marcel speaks German pretty well. We've also both studied Spanish and French - but our abilities are pretty limited with those languages. We love hosting people, showing folks around Missoula and Montana, and getting to know new people. We've stayed at several Air BnB places and are happy to be able to host folks in return, as well.
