Private room in Victorian flat. Sunny, big windows, comfy queen bed. Located in Bernal Heights, the best neighborhood in SF! Next door to hipster Mission District. One short block from buses to downtown SF, the Castro, Haight, Union Square.
We live towards the base of the northwest slope of Bernal Heights. Our house was built in 1901, in the Victorian style. We have the upper flat of a two-unit building. Your spacious and sunny room faces northwest and gets strong afternoon sun in the summer. If there is fog coming in, you'll see how beautiful it is, rolling-in over Twin Peaks. There are dozens of good restaurants nearby, and it's super easy to get around the City from here.
The sofa is really comfortable and would be okay for a third person.
You'll have keys to the front door, access to your room, hallway, kitchen, bathroom, and back deck for chilling out. Also there is a laundry room downstairs behind the garage.

Mark especially enjoys interacting with folks. We certainly are available for advice about places to see, things to do, where to eat. We are very aware of cultural events both high- and low-brow, and we'll have strong opinions about everything. We are pretty knowledgeable about the restaurants around town. We're also good with directions.
That said, we will absolutely leave you to yourself when that's what you need. Your room is in a different part of the flat from the kitchen, bathroom, and our room; so it's quiet even when we're home.
We'll always have coffee and quality teas, as well as breakfast cereals.
The room faces the street, but it's a pretty quiet street most of the time. The bed comfortably sleeps two; the couch could be set up as a comfy third place to sleep.
Parking on the street is challenging; we no longer have an available parking space for guests. Generally, we discourage using a car in the city.
We are registered and fully compliant with San Francisco rules about short-term rentals. Permit# STR-0000528.
We are up two flights of stairs, in case that's an issue.
Advice: bring layers of clothing, as the weather in San Francisco can change by the hour and by the neighborhood, especially in the summer. A San Franciscan will only wear shorts on the hottest day of the year. Check your guidebook for climate statistics.
If you're planning on going to Alcatraz (and it's worth doing), in summer you should consider booking before your arrival in San Francisco. It's one of the busiest National Parks in the country.

While you're here, you're our guests. Guests should be made to feel comfortable and welcome. In return, guests should respect and consider their hosts' feelings, safety, and property at all times in the house. That's the rules!
Oh, and you're welcome to smoke on the back deck or in front of the house but not inside please. Dogs are welcome; while Ken in particular loves cats, he's also pretty allergic. And, children and infants are welcome! Just keep in mind our house is not child-proofed as such.
