The “little house” is peaceful and quiet. It faces the swimming pool, and Patrick’s garden full of fruit trees, plants, flowers and herbs.
It’s fully furnished, and made up of three rooms, plus a bathroom. The first two rooms of the house are bedrooms. The third room is a living room/dining room, with an adjoining kitchen. (If you require additional space, there is a separate studio for rent, which accommodates two people.) All rooms have full-sized glass doors, which open directly to the garden/swimming pool in nice weather.
The kitchen is fully outfitted with a refrigerator, microwave, oven and range, dishwasher, and a washing machine. There is no television, but there is (free) WiFi. In the bathroom, a door separates the toilet from the shower/sink, for additional privacy. Please, no smoking in the house.
Bikes are available (for free), and are a great way to see Angoulins, and neighboring towns. There is a path that will take you to Chatelaillon (4km), where you’ll find a sandy beach, restaurants, bars, and a casino. Or you can ride bikes to La Rochelle (7km), where there are many shops, restaurants and bars. Walk around the old port, along the old stone ramparts, and take in the famous towers that guard the port. In La Rochelle, you can see a movie or a concert, visit the large farmers market, or participate in any number of water sports/boating activities.
If you don’t feel like biking, local busses and trains run regularly six days per week. You will be in the very heart of the city in 10 minutes. It is also very easy to visit Île de Ré or Île de Oleron.
The village of Angoulins is a three-minute walk from the house. There you will find: a café/bar, post office, bakery, pharmacy, butcher shop, pizza place and a bank. There is also a farmers market three days a week, which sells fruits and vegetables, as well as local fish and shellfish.
While you are strolling through the village, make sure to stop at the ancient church, or walk to the ocean to take in the view (the ocean is a leisurely 10 minute walk from the house). As our village borders the Atlantic Ocean, you can swim at our local beach, which is small and quiet, far from crowds and noise. Just don't forget to check the tides; the region is famous for its oysters and mussels, and you can only swim when the tide is up!
