Lovely, spacious farmhouse (sleeps 10 in 5 BIG bedrooms), set in a peaceful hamlet in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region, really close to loads of activities, wonderful GOLF, with vines and sunflowers for miles around.
Full of character and charm the house boasts exposed stone walls, traditional wooden flooring, stone flags, fire places, ancient beams all offset against soft muted colours. A contemporary shower room, bathroom and separate loo, luxury linen and a new country kitchen add comfort and convenience. Furnished with French furniture and contemporary pieces this a wonderful, relaxed and fun home for your holiday.
Refurbished to a high standard but in keeping with the rustic character of the house, the kitchen is well kitted out for cooking and baking, including English and French cookery books for you to enjoy the produce and delights of the local markets. Help yourself to home grown herbs and tomatoes from the garden and enjoy long and lazy meals on the terrace or under the shade of the ancient wisteria. BBQ also available.
A child friendly house, with secure garden and pool area, Les Galineaux has the usual high chair, stair gates and travel cot but we also provide toys, a play kitchen, extra toddler paddling pool, kiddy table etc. For older children (and adults) we have a table tennis table, badminton, pop up pool - it's not big but does the job for splashing around and cooling down on hot summer days - darts board, golf clubs and a couple of bikes you are welcome to use.
The layout of the house, almost in two halves, is ideal to allow privacy either with different families at opposite ends of the house or the kids on one side and the adults at the other! A spacious bedroom with king size bed on the ground floor with its own entrance from the garden is convenient for the elderly or those with mobility issues. The cool and welcoming large, country kitchen is at the heart of this lovely home. French doors onto the garden allow the dappled light and summer air to filter through.
There are 4 spacious bedrooms plus a mezzanine on the landing. This is less private but has the advantage of a four poster king size bed, antique armoire and a balcony for morning coffee. It is also close to the pretty blue twin room, convenient for a family. The master bedrooms (room 5) is a wonderfully large room with old beams and feature chimney. It has twin beds which can also be set up as a super king bed offering flexibility. It is reached by its own spiral staircase.
The ground floor bedroom (another king size bed) with whitewashed stone walls and beams, is again a spacious room with a sofa and French doors that open onto the garden. A traditional Godin wood stove adds character and warmth on autumn nights. A further double bed room is adjacent to bathrooms.
Reputed for its wines and fine gastronomy, there is an abundance of vineyards, truffles and foie gras, restaurants, including a Michelin star patisseries and local produce in the area, including the oyster festival in Eymet and Medieval feasts throughout the summer.
This is a truly wonderful place for a holiday!

You will have access to the whole house and its garden. Attic cupboards and part of the barn are locked as we keep our personal things there. At the end of the lane there are fields, woods and vineyards for walks, biking, fun and adventure!
We have 2 adult bikes you are welcome to use as well as golf clubs, toys for children, a table tennis table, badminton and cricket sets.
We are not around, our holiday home is yours to enjoy. Please treat it with respect as you would your own home. Our friendly neighbours M & Mme Mery will give you the keys, put the lights on if you arrive after dark and help if you have a problem.
There is so much to do here which is why we bought a house in this area: canoeing, kayak, tennis, horse riding, cycling, go karting, historical and pre-historical sites, and of course the wines!
The house is particularly well located for some of the best golf in France. There are courses nearby for both for experts as well as more casual players. At the renowned Chateaux des Vigiers 5 minute away there is a well manicured course and also a brand new course designed by Tom Doak, opening this summer at St Emilion. Of course there is also the Golf du Medoc with a course used for the French Open. For families there is a friendly less formal 9 holes course at Le Golf de Saint Meard. You can hire clubs here or we have clubs at the house you are welcome to use.
The hamlet itself is small and safe with no traffic besides the local residents. The lane is a dead end leading to fields and vineyards which is lovely for walks and foraging or for the kids to kick a football around. There are both French and English speaking people in the hamlet and all very friendly should you come across them! There are children around also which is great if yours want to play!

Don't just take our word for it! This is what other guests have said after staying at Les Galineaux from booking on other sites:
A great home for the family. The house sleeps 10 and has plenty of space and plenty of character. Particularly liked the master bedroom. Newly fitted country style kitchen. It was 38c degrees when we were there and so it was nice to take a dip in the pool from time to time. Rgds SN Trip Advisor
Absolutely fantastic time had by all. House was beautiful, exceeded our expectations. Lots of space for us to chill both outside in the garden, playing chess and inside in front of the log burning fire with a glass or two of gorgeous French wine from nearby wineries. And cheese! Plenty of day trip opportunities. We'd recommend Bergerac, half an hour away, Eymet , half hour in another direction (great Italian restaurant) and Bordeaux is beautiful. Saint Emilion was a beautiful town, about 40 minutes west and well worth a visit. Sainte Foy La Grande is lovely. Gorgeous walk along Dordogne. Lovely restaurants Le Huit and Victor Hugo were our favourites. Market day on a Saturday well worth a potter around. All in all would thoroughly recommend staying here. We will be back! Santiago France, stayed New Years Eve 2015.
We spent two weeks at this lovely old French home and had a wonderful time. The house offers comfortable accommodation in a traditional style, is tastefully decorated throughout and there was plenty of room for our family of six plus granny. The kitchen was very well equipped with all mod cons but manages to retain the traditional character of the house. In addition there is a sunny garden with pop up pool. The house is situated in a quiet hamlet but is very near to a large hypermarket. Saint Foye la Grande is about a 10 minute drive and has plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops as well as the fabulous market on Saturday - not to be missed! We were very well looked after by the owner who gave us lots of tips about where to go and what to see. We particularly enjoyed the lake beach at Place de la Cadie, the Parc du Ciel - fabulous rope courses through the trees and a lovely outdoor pool, and the night market in Duras. Suzanne B Edinburgh
Magic. A lovely quiet spot. The house was comfortable, spacious and well designed for easy, relaxed holiday living. All in beautiful countryside. Wonderful food and local wines on the doorstep. We very much enjoyed swimming in the Dordogne as well as one of the local lakes - great for the children. In the end we all liked it so much we have booked to go again in August! VB Kent
A fantastic Place! We came here just for a short winter break but will certainly be coming back again later in the year! The house is absolutely lovely with plenty of space and full of rustic farm house charm. The owner has done a fantastic job in maintaining the original character of the building while providing all the comfort one is looking for on a relaxed holiday. Not to forget the location itself which has plenty to offer in terms of things to see and do and is definitely worth a trip for anyone loving the French country side, culture and wine! IS Geneva
A wonderful break in November sampling wines and fine food! 22 degrees, we ate outside - freezing and wet when we left London! St Emilion and Pomerol so easy to get to, Bergearac well worth a visit. We loved your house, so spacious and nice and cosy with the fires going, comfortable and full of character. Will be in touch about dates in the summer. The kids will love it! Many thanks. RB Wrotham, Kent
Your typical French farm house. This is a very nice place to visit and a good location for all the nearby wine producers. I loved visiting St Emilion, Bergerac, the local market and driving around the vine yards in Pomerol. I will return and explore the region further. Roly
We were 4 couples hoping to 'do the vineyard and foodie' side of the area. The accommodation was fantastic. Full of genuine character, spacious and just as described. We are all cooks and the kitchen worked really well. We had great evenings round the table into the night. The area was amazing for vineyards, markets and food experiences. I would recommend it to anyone who has a love of French culture and quisine. I am sure it would be fantastic for a family too as there is so much to do in the area. Loved this part of France and the weather was great too! DE Cheshire

I'm a mum of 3 children, now 13, 15, and 17.
I have had a nomadic upbringing living in France, England and Africa as a child which has given me eclectic tastes. I have now lived in Scotland for over 20 years and confess to being confused as to my roots and nationality! I see myself as a "European" rather than anything else. Not because I'm a great fan of the EU but because, being brought up in France I have very strong French characteristics as well a English and Scottish ones - and they don't always sit well together! You should read "The Secret life of France" by Lucy Wadham if you want to get a better understanding of the intricate, confusing and often infuriating relationship between these two nations! I discovered recently that my brothers, who are identical twins, hold different nationalities - one British the other French - says it all!
We are now fortunate enough to have a lovely big house in Aquitaine, South West France where we can indulge our love of all things French - not just the amazing food and wines but the relaxed pace of life, the sun, the joie de vivre and the conviviality of being with friends and family.
In our house this is what we try to offer, a place to meet up with those you care about, in a simple and comfortable yet stylish setting, and enjoy lazy days in the sun, swimming, siteseeing, relaxing with a book or having an adventure. A good kitchen for cooking and a huge table for hours of enjoying local produce from the markets, talking, laughing and conviviality with children, friends, family and even newly discovered strangers - that's what life should be about!
We welcome you to our holiday home in historic Aquitaine and hope you will love it, and the area, as much as we do.
