The house is one of the few original Captains' houses, built for a captain’s family, in 1840. It has been photographed by Julia Klimi, travel writer and photographer (author of the book At home in Greece, Thames & Hudson editions) . When the house was built, the citadel of Galaxidi was a vibrant port of shipowners, traders and captains, sailing all over the Mediterranean sea. The house has been listed as a landmark property by the Ministry of Culture, as part of the architectural heritage of Galaxidi. It has been restored carefully, with respect to the original architecture. Over the years has become a comfortable, refined 2 storey home & ground floor.
Entrance & Boat Room on Ground Floor:
You can enter the house either from the main entrance, or from the small entrance in the private courtyard. Walking in through the main entrance, a traditional wooden door leads you to the Boat Room, a relaxed living room, kitchen dining room, opening to a private courtyard. With old naval maps on the walls & drawings of old sailing ships, you can relax, cook and enjoy a glass of wine, savouring the atmosphere.
A modern open kitchen & pantry
(2 sinks, electric wine cooler, brand new Bosch fridge & Bosch dishwasher, Nespresso machine, WMF pots and pans, serving pieces for 8 people) makes preparing food a pleasure.
Walking out of the ground living room, is a tiled courtyard (45m2) on two levels, ideal for alfresco dining, sunbathing or taking an outdoor shower after swimming in the sea. It is enclosed and protected from street view, ideal for relaxing and a great extension of the house in the summer.
As you go up the wooden staircase, you find comfortable living quarters for a family of 5 or for 2 couples. Whether you want to relax, read, have a coffee or breakfast this is easily and comfortably done on this floor. There are two large bedrooms.
1st bedroom: with a king size bed and a single bed, along with a breakfast table and lots of space.
2nd bedroom: with 2 single beds that can be puot together, a desk and a sofabed.
Main bathroom: A modern tiled bathroom with comfortable shower for tw and a view to the citadel.
2nd kitchen on the middle floor, sunny and white, perfect for a quick coffee or breakfast.
The Sails Room (top floor)
This airy room of 88 m2 opening to two balconies used to be the place where sails were left to dry, in the captain’s time. Now, the 11 windows are glass windows and it has a view to the sea and the village, with a roof of exposed beams, antique furniture & a fireplace for cool evenings.

Access to the house:
You can park your car directly outside the house. The house has 2 flights of stairs, not suitable for people with walking difficulties or for infants.
Access to the sea:
The house is 100 meters from beaches where one can swim, in a protected bay area where waters remain clear & calm. There are small pebbly beaches, all over Galaxidi that can be reached on foot or by bike.
Walks & Biking:
2 bikes are available at the house and Galaxidi is ideal for couples who want to go biking or walk along the quay of small port, in the cobble stone streets of the village and is an easy place for children around the age of 6-12, as there are few cars and many open space places to play, near the house & to go biking (2 town squares, nearby beaches etc.) If you need more bikes, we could arrange to rent them for you at the nearby shop
Tavernas & Restaurants:
There are many cafes and tavernas, along the port, some of which remain open year round, offering small fish, fresh mussels from the area, along with horta, greek salad & other delicacies. We recommend Maritsa's for more fine dining and "Ta Limania" as a taverna. "To Kafeneion" is a great place for waffles with ice-cream, ouzo with meze or chilled espresso, open from the morning until late.
Ideal time to visit:
for people who want to enjoy the sea and swimming June & July are ideal months. However, since Galaxidi has mild weather & beautiful scenery, in off season months it is still an ideal place for vacation (September, October and April May June).
Delphi, the famous archeological site, home of the Delphic Oracle is approximately 45 minutes car drive from the house and can be visited and enjoyed year round.

I live in Athens Greece and I really love my city! I am married and have a son who is studying in the UK
My job takes most of my time, but I love it, although I wish I had more time for my family (close and extended), as well as for the mediterranean way of life. I would not trade living in Greece for all the riches of the world! For me, Greece is a sunny place where history created miracles in ancient times, a place where people love life & the moment, a place of friendship & warm feelings & joy! In my free time, I love to drink coffee or cook for friends, have long discussions on dreams, politics and life. I also enjoy spending time with my husband decorating, cooking & drinking wine. Finally, I love travelling and my favourite cities include London, Istanbul, Paris, Vienna & Berlin. If I had a motto, it would be "enjoy life" and "know thyself".
