Erwin's home is wonderful, a total gem in a great location. The home itself is bright and airy, with lots of natural light. The neighborhood is terrific, with great proximity to shops, markets, restaurants etc.
His two beds are large and comfortable, but had no top sheets, which we are used to having at home. His bathroom is roomy and stylish with both a large tub and a separate walk-in shower. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking meals in, and he has a large dining table inside for eating. There is also an outside table on the back porch, but due to weather issues during our stay, we did not use that. There is a retractable awning on the porch, but we also did not use that.
Erwin is a great host, and went above and beyond for us. He met us at the house after our delayed arrival time coming in from Brisbane. He gave us a quick tour and went on his way, but he was always quick to respond to any texts we sent, and very helpful with any of our needs. I would highly recommend his home to virtually anyone.
As I mentioned, the house is a short walk to many great shops and restaurants and is in a very appealing part of town (Grey Lynn). On our two mornings there, we had delicious meals and coffees at nearby cafes, Kokako and Occam. After a delicious meal and coffee at Kokako the first morning, I didn't expect to be double-wowed by the meal at Occam, but it was really good (I had the Green Omelette), and the iced mocha was crazy delicious.
This area is also close to the hip part of town called Ponsonby, which apparently has great shops and cafes, etc, too, but we never had time to do anything but drive through it on our way into the CBD for a short walking tour and a visit to the terrific Auckland Art Gallery (museum).
Loved our (much too short) time at Erwin's home, and Auckland, and New Zealand, in general. Will certainly do it all again (and hopefully much more) on a subsequent NZ trip.
