A 1700 square foot Hugh Kaptur mid-century masterpiece. Honored at Modernism Week 2014 and the subject of the short film Quiet Elegance, Kaptur used the vernacular of Palm Springs mid century made famous by the Alexander Homes and made this home larger, taller and more open.
Sliding glass windows from the large Great Room lead out onto a huge outdoor covered living and dining patio, lit by 4 chandeliers. A large built-in firepit overlooks the sunken hot tub and lights the curtained cabana areas.
Created by HGTV host of interior design show Pop Shop, the house is mid-century eclectic meets high design, with original artwork, restored vintage pieces and fashion-forward furniture.
All of the bedrooms are far larger than the traditional Alexander home layout, and each looks out onto private outdoor areas. The master bedroom opens onto the covered patio while the master bathroom opens to the cabana areas.
A lighted koi pond creates peaceful night-time patterns on the house walls. Multiple seating areas and lounges create great day and night-time opportunities for socializing and laying out.
The indoor dining table seats six, as does the outdoor dining table. The outdoor living room sectional seats 10 under a large covered area with misters all around for hot days.
Sexy cabanas provide shaded and intimate lounge areas for daytime or night-time, with the firepit right next to it.
Watch flat screen smart TVs in 2 bedrooms as well as in the living room. A large kitchen provides plenty of space for preparing food. Exit the kitchen through a private door to the outdoor grill area.
Covered patios provide shade to the house
The architect of homes for Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, William Holden and Steve McQueen.
A couple of random notes so there aren't any surprises: The sliding glass door from master to patio is a little sticky - it works but it has a balky personality. The ice machine / water in the refrigerator does not work but we have provided ice trays and a Brita filter pitcher.
Lots of great amenities including

Our house manager who lives in Palm Springs will check you in and show you all of the amenities, including how to use the cable TV, Netflix, fireplace, outdoor fire pit, Nest and more. He will be available during your stay and responsive for any questions or issues that might come up. You will have his cell phone number.
We put in brand new tile throughout the house and would LOVE your help keeping it sparkly and fresh. We implore you to skip the shoes indoors!
The standard Palm Springs rules: Our house is only allowed to sleep 6. No more than 12 people can be at the house even during the day.
Amplified music that can be heard by neighbors is not allowed (in fact, Palm Springs considers it illegal!) You will be checked in by a house manager who will check before and after for breakage or any damage to the house or interior.
No smoking in the house.
We don't allow pets - even our own dog. The polished floors make it impossible to get pet hair up for the next guest.
The house is not designed for younger kids, so please discuss any children between the ages of 2 and 10.
Just a couple of nice guys living in LA with our chocolate lab. We are both professionals, one in the marketing business, one in the travel industry. Tom is a huge design and midcentury fan, and was the host of a short-lived HGTV design show called Pop Shop. We are definitely design travelers - we'd rather stay at a design boutique hotel than a big chain, or an airbnb place with an amazing aesthetic.
As serious travelers ourselves, we're dedicated to making your stay comfortable, seamless and memorable. Our local house manager in Palm Springs is minutes away and can take care of everything. And we are always available to you as well. We want you to enjoy our place as much as we do.
