Welcome to my lush 1930's home surrounded by fruit trees & flowers, the perfect location for staying up 3 months. Super close to downtown (only 12 mins by bus) but in a peaceful neighborhood! Relax in Pacific Rim-influenced room with private room, separate entrance & outdoor seating/meditation area. Just blocks to parks, arts center, restaurants & Alki Beach. Big, friendly dogs will greet you at the end of each day.
I have tried to create a verdant refuge from the hustle-bustle by nestling plantings on practically every inch of ground and incorporating unusual ethnic decor. Hummingbirds flutter around the flowers and feeders and two large dogs "patrol" the grounds. The house has two different Airbnb units. In addition, the owner lives on the premises and has a work space in back.
If you are traveling with pets, I can recommend a local place to board them. If you have other friends or family members traveling with you or if your accommodations needs can be met with one queen bed, please take a look at our beautiful NEW Asian Fusion Suite. It is in the same house and features a rock waterfall spa bathroom.
Enjoy a private separate entrance, private bedroom, private bathroom, shared living room, front yard garden paths, and outdoor seating & meditation space in the host's home. You'll have a mini-fridge stocked with fruit, granola/bars and yogurt along with a microwave, electric kettle, coffee/tea and coffee-maker all in your room. Fresh towels and linens are provided. The large bed is queen-sized with a wonderful plush mattress. There is an optional twin-sized bed which has a 5" mattress and additional thick cushioned topper - super comfortable! There is another optional twin bed with a nice foam mattress which can be set up in the living room. Please let the host know if you require the additional bed for a modest one time fee. There is a large closet and additional storage space in the Asian-styled armoire.
PLEASE NOTE: The use of and contents of the kitchen, utility room, backyard and back deck are not for Garden Cottage guests unless arrangements have been made in advance or if you are having a wedding or other event here. Guests staying a month or longer will have access to a shared kitchen, washer & dryer and will incur a refundable security deposit.
This is an ideal setting if you enjoy friendly, big dogs. Otherwise, you may not be comfortable here.
Your room shares one wall with another guest room. If that room is occupied, you may possibly hear sounds and voices at times. Quiet hours for all are from 11 PM to 7 AM.
The separate Hummingbird Studio (free-standing small building in back) is available by special arrangement for individual/group gong meditation and sound healing, customized ceremonies, receptions and weddings.
Sha'ari is a music therapist and minister who can officiate or facilitate your special event. Extra charges will apply. If you are interested, please ask!

Airbnb is not the same as old school bed and breakfast lodging. It supports an equal give-and-take relationship with both parties assuming responsibility for communication. Like many Airbnb hosts, I am not a full time innkeeper or hotelier. Therefore, please communicate with me about your arrival time. Please plan to check in between 4-5 pm although we can often work out another time with advance notice. I have a non-traditional work schedule so am often in and out. I will respect your privacy and let you fly solo unless you initiate contact but will usually send short text messages just to check in see whether you need anything. When I'm not at work, it's not unusual to see me digging in the garden, maintaining the property or returning muddy from the dog park. Feel free to stop for a chat! Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions or there is anything you need!
Want to get married here? Not only am I a WA State Minister, but I have a beautiful space available for you, The Hummingbird Studio, a freestanding building on the property. Weddings are $150 and up. Custom individual and group healing gong bath sessions are available on site. Private sound therapy sessions are also available for $95 per 50-minute hour. I have two friendly dogs - Sabu and Mikah - whom you will only encounter on your way to the bathroom.

A little about me - I have many interests including cooking, gardening, music healing, dogs, hiking, decorating on a budget and travel. The Pacific Northwest is one of the most beautiful and interesting places in the world - especially during the Summer!
I believe that traveling expands both the mind and the heart. When I do travel, it is so gratifying to meet people who are open, gracious and generous. That is the kind of host I aspire to be. Without being too corny, I will admit that I feel that life is a gift and it is incumbent upon us not to waste it by negative thinking and creating false barriers. Rather, I aim celebrate it every day (I'm not always successful...). Working in the ER for 15 years has taught me that you never know when your journey will end so make the most of it NOW!
