Location of Dias Rest is by far the selling point of this listing -- a secluded spot overlooking lush countryside. We had an excellent stay and really enjoyed the company of the Dias family as well as the other travelers. Meals are eaten family-style (food is by far some of the best we had in Sri Lanka) and hosts are very accommodating. We enjoyed early morning jogs along the road in the hills, though were also able to walk to town, grab a tuk tuk, or just sit on the porch and enjoy the views. Highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a beautiful, affordable place to stay
Simply, an incredible location. If you want to experience the real Sri Lanka, with tea plantations on your doorstep (literally) and very possibly the best views of any guest house anywhere in Sri Lanka, then this is the place for you. A real community feeling, and all the guests eat around the same tables at night, so lots of good conversation after a day of walking. There are frequent buses to the town center, so no worries there. Or just walk into town -- the vistas along the road are spectacular. The house is situated along the road which leads to Liptons Seat -- winding through spectacular tea plantations. Definitely a highight of my time in Sri Lanka.
Dias was a great host, willing to invite guests into his home and chat about anything. When we arrived we were seated in the living room and offered tea and biscuits. The family was accommodating. The place is located some ways from town. But it was great views and hikes located around. The room is very basic. Bed, table, small dresser. They did provide us with extra blankets on request (it does get cold). The bathroom had a broken tap that had to be fiddled with. Towel provided looked a little dingy. It was one of those places that make a decent place for an overnight rest, but not where you hang out. Nothing luxurious about it. The food was amazing. Dinner had multiple options with rice, curry, sides and fruits. We even requested lunch on a short notice and they whipped something up for us. And all priced very reasonably.
Endroit perdu dans la montagne, venir idéalement en tuktuk mais vous pouvez repartir en bus! So nice view! You must absolutely see de sunrise! It was so beautifull.. The host speak very well english and is a so nice guy. He give you some tips. His mother cooked so good. It was our best rice and curry! Little bad point, there is no wifi. But no problem for us.. just good to know ;) You must walking to the lipton seat, the mountain of tea was magical!
