Despite the bad weather during the period of our stay in Marmaris (wintertime), our experience was excellent. Deniz had made very good arrangements and even provided us with a welcoming surprise, being her first guests. Though she was in the Philippines at the time, she responded quickly to all our inquiries. Her neighbors provided good care of us, and welcomed us as old friends. We went fishing several times, had our catch cleaned, cooked and served at the next door cafeteria, and enjoyed genuine Turkish hospitality. Her house has great character and it accommodated the three of us comfortably. The house is exactly as described: its thick stone walls provide excellent insulation against heat and cold. With one smallish bathroom the house would indeed be less suitable for parties larger than three persons, as Deniz already indicates in her description, though it could easily accommodate a family of four. The three staircases in the house, while well laid out, could require some caution for guests with small children or physically challenged. We found the kitchen, at mezzanine level, a pleasant spot to sit together. The kitchen is equipped with all essentials, including gas stove.
The location of Deniz's house has pros and cons: it is in the old town, right at the boulevard and the harbor. It is just 50 meters to the waterfront. The nearest parking however is at the marina (about 400 meters away, guarded, 20 liras per day) and vehicles are not allowed near the location of the house. While that eliminates any concern about traffic noise, it means that guests may need to manually get their luggage to the house. Also, the house is in an area with many restaurants and bars (bar street is just a few hundred meters away). During our stay it was quiet, but when the tourist season is in full swing one should expect some nighttime noise. But then again: marina, boat trips, local as well as tourist restaurants, the old town and its shopping area are all within a few minutes walking!
In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Marmaris in wintertime. Deniz demonstrated genuine concern about her guests' wellbeing, and did everything to make us feel at home. With her friendly neighbors she succeeded wonderfully.
