This is our sitting room - we only make it available if a large party has booked "book lined double" and "the other room" and needs more space. In summer it's available if we're full.
This is our sitting room, which is why it is only available occasionally as we like to use it. It has a very comfortable double (5 ft) sofa bed.
The room is private, although our hall and staircase are just outside the door. There isn't anywhere to store clothing, but there is a TV with freeview, as well as a desk, sofas and books. There are tea and coffee making things, and access to wifi.
The main bathroom is on the 1st floor, but there is also a loo on the ground floor, next to the garden, and a shower room on 2nd floor.
Our house is a few minutes walk from the sea in a quiet street. Street parking is usually readily available. It's a 10 minute walk from Ramsgate railway station, and 7-10 minutes from the Harbour where the coaches stop. There's a local bus stop about 3-4 minutes away
This fantastic Victorian house is a work in progress. It's traditionally decorated with lots of antiques and old paintings and prints, but parts are not yet decorated (this room is!).
We normally provide a continental breakfast, but a cooked breakfast can be separately negotiated for a reasonable charge if you let us know in advance. Again, if you tell me in advance you can eat supper with the family for an extra charge. We're interested in other people, but we can guarantee privacy if you want to be alone.
Ramsgate is a beautiful small town with a wonderful sandy beach, ideal for a weekend away. There's a park nearby with a children's playground. Within 2 minutes of the house is the fantastic UpDown art gallery which shows contemporary works by artists such as Howard Hodgkin, Bridget Riley, Peter Blake - exhibitions change regularly. The UpDown is closed on Monday. The nearest supermarket is a Waitrose, and Ramsgate's main library is also nearby. The York Street Gallery exhibits work by local artists, and there are the wartime tunnels to see too.
Ramsgate has a number of really good restaurants (Bon Apetit, the Empire Room, Flavours by Kumar and The Albion House) as well as places for more informal food - the Belgian Bar stocks a range of Belgian beers and does a regular menu as well as late night pizzas. The Queen Charlotte pub doesn't do food, except occasionally but has a great atmosphere - and sells local wines and beers. There's a wide range of ethnic restaurants, Indian, Chinese, Thai, Russian and Italian. And there are lots of bars along the harbour which serve food too - Miles is my favourite at the moment.
Ramsgate has a maritime museum open on summer weekends, with lots about the Goodwin Sands and the Dunkirk Evacuation, there's a good deal of architecture by Pugin and his family, and attractive walks if you like architecture and seaviews. Nearby in Margate the Turner Centre holds regular exhibitions of internationally known artists. Ramsgate is not far from Canterbury, Sandwich, Deal Dover Castle and Richborough Roman Fort... plenty to entertain any one for a weekend without even going to the beach.
There are hourly fast trains to London, and 2 per hour to Canterbury, Sandwich, Deal, Dover etc. are all accessible by train - or take a local bus for a more leisurely experience.
Guests will have access to the garden, the dining room, the bathroom and top floor shower room. We prefer them not to use the kitchen.

We usually chat with them when they arrive, we usually see them at breakfast - if we're alert and up and about! We tend to take our cues from the guests, some are more interested in talking, some less so. We can provide plenty of advice and we are usually on the premises to answer questions, although we have a social life and plans of our own too!
We have a lovely black short-haired cat called Bernard. Some guests love him, but please be aware of this if you have allergy problems.
Turn lights and appliances off when you don't need them.
Don't waste water.
Please don't go into the kitchen unless invited to.
