The house was as described, lovely architecture in a quite, but central area. The sento/public bath located just around the corner was amazing. Definitely worth a visit. I would recommend staying here.

Our stay in the old tea ceremony house was one of the high lights of our Japan tour. The house has a very special, traditional atmosphere and we enjoyed it very much. You feel like in old Japanese times. The house is much nicer than on the fotos, has a big Tatami room upstairs to sleep 4-5 People. The provided sleeping mats and warm plankets were very comfortable. The traditional japanese table with under-the-table-heating was our favorite place. There are plenty of little bowels and plates to create japanese style dinner if you like. The place is close to some main attractions like the Golden Temple. A visit ot the Funuoka onsen is highly recommended, but there is a clean and modern restroom and shower in the house. Highly recommended place if you seek for something truely special!!

If you want a small & simple traditional 2 floor Kyoto house for 5-6 people, this is a good choice if you can accept several conditions. First, the house is really cold during the late March, we are depending on their 2 small mobile heaters to adjust our sleeping with the coldness. Second, it's an old heritage house. You would notice the paper screen door has some stains & a lil bit of tear. It's all safe, but you have to accept it's aging. Third, it's 30-45 minutes away by bus from city center (Gion, Nishiki Market, Pontocho, etc.). Fourth, you need to prepare with (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map to check on the bus to go there. Fifth, if you have huge luggages, you should consider that the bus is quite crowded during the peak hours. If the above are fine with you, then we would say it would be a lovely choice to stay there. We love the neighborhood, there is a proper supermarket steps away where you can buy & later cook/heat some food, veggies, etc. There's a path going up where you can visit a nice small temple & good garden where you can view the whole Kyoto on the hill. It's not mentioned in the listing but the bathroom & toilet is proper. All are clean and quite well maintained, from the main family room you can open the door to have an outdoor experience of a very small garden. At first we are confused of how we would put our luggages, but we manage the arrange it. I would come back here during a family trip, we had memorable moments there. It's a lovely experience for the kids too, you can check some of the pictures in my (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) (limmasulin).

This was our 2nd stay in Hiroshi's Tea Ceremony house in Kyoto, and it was another fabulous experience. The house and neighborhood make you truly live like a local. The surroundings are beautiful, the onsen (public bath) right across the street is not to be missed and there are plenty of very good and affordable dining options within walking distance. Hiroshi is a great host, very responsive and flexible. Highly recommended to anyone going to Kyoto.
