Open the breaker box behind the laundry room door, and flip on the double switch to turn on the water heater.
When you leave during the day:
Close and secure all exterior doors including the lanai doors, and close the living room windows.
Wipe your feet or remove your shoes to prevent small rocks from scratching the floors.
Be mindful of your electrical use. Electricity is very expensive on Hawaii Island, about 4 to 6 times that of the mainland. Use cold water in the laundry whenever possible. Turn off the lights when not in use.
Leave the lid to the washer open when not in use due to the high humidity.

Leave interior doors and all curtains open.
Cleaning fee includes ordinary housekeeping but you may be assessed an additional fee if excessive cleaning is needed. Please leave the beds unmade so the Housekeepers will know which rooms were used. We greatly appreciate your help with the laundry if at all possible. Laundry takes about 2 hours to wash and dry. You may leave linens in the dryer if you don't have time to wait. Make sure all laundry is thoroughly dry before you take it out of the dryer as things mold easily in Pahoa.
• There is no trash pick-up in Pahoa. Housekeeper will take one large, black trash bag to the transfer station, you are responsible to take anything in excess of that. A $25.00 fee will be charged for extra trash removal.
• You may place bags of trash and recycling across the street on Friday mornings for our neighbor's paid trash pick up. Please call out and let her know you have done so.
• PAHOA or KEA'AU TRANSFER STATIONS Open daily, 8am – 4pm. See map for driving directions. The transfer station collects recyclables and rubbish.

I am a newly retired elementary school Art teacher living in Honolulu. I absolutely love getting away to my house in Pahoa on the Big Island. There is nothing like the smell of the fresh air, flowers and trees over there, not to mention all of the colors of green! It is really fun for me to share our beautiful island and what I have created in my little piece of it with people from all around the world thanks to Airbnb.
I have lived in Honolulu for over 26 years but formerly lived in southern California, upstate New York, and the greater Chicago area. I am originally from Indianapolis.
