First of all it's a pity you didn't have a nice time in my house. But some things have to be clarified since this review is on my public profile. The house does not smell bad. This is an old house (over 500 years old) renovated to its former state. That means that it is decorated with furniture that resemble the era with some of them being antiques. Most of the furniture are not commercially bought from a store (ikea for ex.) but rather commissioned especially for the house. That means, traditional wood with no chemicals treatment. Old wood smells like old wood. To me and most of my guests (not all apparently unfortunately) that's a pleasant smell.
Also, it is decorated with traditional woven textiles which have a distinct smell by themselves, definitely not bad.
The plants are not half dead. If you are referring to the herbs that are inside the house they are supposed to be like that. Herbs are dry (not dead) and they are located inside the house in various places, in pots and big traditional clay jars and they have their own smell as well (both the herbs and clay). Definitely not bad but I suppose it's a matter of taste.
So as about the smell, Creta has the smell of herbs, salt, wood, stone and earth and this is a traditional Cretan house...
The terrace floor is not gritty as dirty. The tiles chosen for the house are brown matte inside the house and with tones of brown on the terrace. The tiles are chosen carefully to keep the character of a rustic cottage look. The small terrace unfortunately has matte tiles which keep the dust but keep in mind that you are at the south of Greece, which means that there are dusty days and there will be dust. Maybe you are not satisfied with the choice I ve made about my house. Sorry about that but there is nothing I can do about it.
The top terrace has a nice tent with shade. Summer in Crete can be very hot and I prefer to have sun. When I need more shade I go inside the house where is cool due to the thick stone walls. And actually after sunset is the time when you can really enjoy the terraces. The view and temperature are ideal at these times of the day.
Please, keep in mind that this is my house that I chose to host some guests not a hotel with neutral look, neutral smell and neutral character with white tiles, white sheets, white walls and a swimming pool. Also, the house is always cleaned in detail (that means sweeping, mopping and dusting both inside and outside the house) the day before or the same day I have guests.
About the towels, I am sorry. I didnt realise that there were not enough towels in the house but I didnt get your email. If I had I would hurry back to bring you some more. Last year I had a guest who called me to tell me that there were not enough cooking pots in the house. He was right and in 15 minutes I was back with everything he needed and he was of course satisfied. You can find his review on this listing as well. I always reply to all email messages and phone calls and if not 24/7 I am almost all the day available for if anybody faces any issue at all with the house.
About the location. The house is situated on a quiet neighborhood. Of course there are other people around. It's a village where locals live their lives. Not a mountain village. A coastal village, a small community of people. There will be people. What do you mean by "commercial area"? Sorry I dont understand. If you are referring to touristy/overcrowded then you are wrong. Commercial areas of this kind are Platanias village and the surrounding villages not (Website hidden by Airbnb) least not yet. There is a hotel down the road, before the beach but it's not intruding in the area.
At walking distance of the house there is a lovely beach. Also there are a couple of mini markets (not supermarkets) and taverns (some of them being quite good actually). At about 3km distance there are two large supermarkets and at a distance of 4km there is the village of Kolympari where you will find fresh fish, excellent taverns, groceries stores and other goods. It's not really that great distance to drive back...
As you can understand I was annoyed by your review and I can not understand why you left a thank you note when you left since you were not thankful at all.
All of the above can be witnessed on the photographs that accompany this listing. Also, I will add to the description of the house some history background about it so people can know a little bit more about the house.
