Ostale napomene
You must checkout the Chiltern Hills, a unique standout destination!, on a par with national parks status, an outstanding protected area, historically and visually really worth exploring, having the river Thames wrapping around the hills gives a different more boating feel than the Cotswolds, as there are no navigatable rivers in the Cotswolds, and not as overcrowded, really interesting architecture and the history and origins of the country can be found here,

You can explore this beautiful area around the Barn, from different perspectives,

A) the geography is interesting, feels like an ancient map of Britain, nothing has changed, for 1000's of years, with the Thames cutting through the hills, giving breath-taking views of the Chiltern Hills on one side and Wessex Downs on the other-side, with rare English Orchids on the side of the hills, take a sociable woodland or riverside walk through this landscape and end up at brick and flint country pub, with roaring log fires at the end, fully refreshed,

B) you can explore all the Inspector Barnaby old “Midsummer Murder” villages , as the tv series is set here, Wallingford is the centre, and called "Causton" in the series

C) Wallingford on the river Thames is really old and historic, known as the home of famous author Agatha Christie, as she lived here for 42 years "Winterbrook House", and wrote most of her mysteries here, so Miss Marple and Poirot world, to explore, and see where her inspiration came from, Wallingford also has the remains of one of the oldest castles in Britain, overlooking the Thames, built by William the Conqueror

D) Goring and Streatley on the thames, is known as home to the story “wind in the willows”, a great Thameside village to explore,

E) Dorchester-on-Thames has the oldest Saxon cathedral in the country, 640AD, really fascinating place, as the first king of the Saxons was baptized there in the river, 600AD, how long ago is that!, isn't that incredible, it has a museum and tea shop, all the ladies in the village bake these incredible cakes! can’t recommend it more, if history and beautiful architecture, and the origins of the British Isles, might interest you, and just about the most peaceful, calm, centered place I've ever found in the country, (if you are feeling a bit frazzled, from lots of travelling)

F) there’s the Thames path, great for walking along the river between all the interesting riverside villages, with pubs along the way,

G) and there’s the ridgeway national path that goes over the Chiltern hills down along the river and up into the Wessex downs eventually getting to Avebury and Stonehenge, a 5000year old "Stone Age" track, that is the oldest road in Europe, and along with Dorchester-on-Thames has Neolithic and Mesolithic monuments that rival Stonehenge, has a mysterious old Island feel, so you can connect back very quickly to an ancient Briton around here, so lots to explore, great places to eat, or dip in and out of all the amazing ancient history and famous authors all to be discovered and explored, in a small area

H) Boating holiday makers love this area, so try to get out on the river Thames for an adventure, some guests hire boats at Wallingford bridge and book a table downstream at a restaurant or pub, "have a wind in the willow adventure" or take the old fashioned river steamer from Goring bridge, with a refreshment drinks bar on board, through the goring gap, with outstanding views, the stretch of the Thames, from Goring & Streatley to Benson is the longest stretch on the River Thames without locks so you can do 1.5hours boating one way without going through a lock, which in effect is 3 hours round trip, some parts of the Thames like Windsor or Marlow is like a boat motorway where you can queue in the locks for up to 45mins, such a pain, and quite built up, whereas through this stretch, the river meanders and cuts through the Wessex hills and the Chiltern hills and is thought of as having some of the finest views of the Thames, “it’s like boating through an 18th century painting”, so a great area for outside activities like boating, walking, cycling & horse riding, fishing etc, Oxford University have their boat houses in this stretch as the longest stretch for their rowing training

Thousands of years ago the river Thames forced its way through the chalk hills, splitting them into two hills, the Chiltern hills on one side and the Wessex downs on the other side, creating amazing views of the Thames cutting through the hills, it’s actually been voted in the top ten views in England, and one of the most popular and inspirational views of the river Thames for artists, with beautiful little riverside villages and towns and bridge crossings through this cut through,

The cut through the hills gently opens out into a bowl valley shape, and the old barn is right in the middle of this bowl, encircled by the Chiltern’s and the Wessex downs with 360degree views around this valley with the Wessex downs in the distance, and two fields from the river Thames, you can watch the sun rising over one set of hills and gone down over the other, also its halfway along the river surrounded by these riverside towns and villages, with their own little personality’s,

To enjoy this valley, (without getting in a car) you can walk from the barn up into the hills with far reaching views and around to the king William brick and flint pub, with a nice log fire on the go, or from the barn walk down to the river and follow the river along to the next village south stoke and find another brick and flint pub, the Perch and Pike, (also with roaring log fires) (I leave instructions and a map for these two walks in the barn if you have time or want to get out in the fresh air, also stay for a few days and i can give you a little tour/adventure in an old range rover called "the beast", great for getting up into the hills to capture the views, and help get your bearings of places you might want to visit

Ipsden and the beautiful countryside around it, is a 5th/6th century village /hamlet in a valley or fold in the Chiltern’s, known for the best views in the Chilterns, with evidently the same ratio of people to sheep as the Shetland isles, it’s like a rural bubble, you could feel you are miles from anywhere, just great Chiltern countryside that’s been protected from development since the war, and lots of farms, and old architecture, to check out this area and walk through the views and history, I’ve got four main walks, at one end, the dramatic cut through the hills, called the Goring Gap, in the middle is Ipsden, more of an area/hamlet than just a village, with incredible far reaching views like an “English Tuscany”, with two great walks, up into the hills or along the river, and at the other end are the Wittenham clumps, with spectacular 360 degree views of the Thames, Chilterns, Wessex downs and Dorchester Abbey below in the river meadows by the Thames.
" Tuscany in the Chilterns " "Midsummer Murders" ,"Wind in the Willows" and Agatha Christie's, "Miss Marple & Poirot country", 200 year old country barn two fields from the Thames, beautiful views, and one of a few areas in the UK where you have hills and valleys and a navigable river wrapping around them, encircled by picturesque riverside towns

Oxfordshire, Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo

The chilterns are known for amazing walks, rambles and hill top views, my two Italian cousins say it looks like Tuscany, that's why i call it "Tuscany in the Chilterns", with picturesque brick and flint pubs and farmhouses and churches dotting the landscape, perfect for relaxed pub walks, like here we have the king William, in ipsden, with probably the best views from any pub i,ve found, worth a visit great local beer and gastro pub food,

Ancient paths and sites like the ridge-way 5000 year old road or path, intersect the oxfordshire cycleway and further on the Thames path all outside the old barn, some people say they have seen monks or pilgrims walking along it , also there's grimms dyke, a neolithic ditch or dyke, going all the way up a hill in the chilterns, separating two Waring tribes, great walk, all old ancient and very calming and restful and all around the barn, riverside walks along the thames, just a couple of fields away

Ipsden comes under the parish of walllingford and dorchester-on-thames with a huge abbey and pilgrimage centre for hundreds of years, also at checkendon there is the national horse center for riding with riding trips across the hills, taking in spectacular breathtaking views,

down in north stoke on the Thames is the springs golf course and club house, set in a capability brown grounds along the Thames, one of many golf courses in the area

theres little riverside towns and villages like Goring and Streatley, Wallingford and Dorchester-on-thames, Henley-on-Thames, Sonning-on-Thames, Whitchurch-on-thames and Pangbourne, a really pretty little lifestyle area in the Chilterns where the river Thames wraps around the hills, so best of both worlds, navigatable river and hills, also the river Thames cuts through the hills at Goring & Streatley creating dramatic landscape called the goring gap and home of wind in the willows, but all not far from London oxford or reading, there's many outdoor and potential lifestyle activities and places to visit , but don't worry you can just chill in the barn and relax, or take a day out in oxford , book a nice restaurant, but its nice to know these things are available if you want to just do a couple of them
