Peace at last! Our coach house is located in a private nature reserve, on a wooded hillside with sweeping views of the sea.
The house is offgrid. That means you get the rare bliss that comes with freedom from electrosmog, as there's no mains electricity or gas. If that's okay by you, read on!
If you want a third bedroom, see The Old Coach House at Windsworth (with 3 bedrooms). It's the same house, with a studio flat as well. If you opt for the house alone, we won't let the flat out to others.
We have an old stone coach house that we have converted into a charismatic place for up to 6 people to stay, and at the same time find out what fun it can be to live off-grid.
You’ll probably find you can get a mobile signal (and we have a mobile charging point) but there’s currently no wifi (though you’d be welcome to call in for wifi at our own house).
Sleeping: we have a king-size bed in a bedroom downstairs; then there’s a sleeping platform upstairs with two double mattresses, for up to 4 adults (or 5 or 6 not-too-wriggly kids).
Heating: two woodburners: one in the kitchen and one in the sitting room (5m x 5m, and the full height of the building). In the other rooms, it's the warmth from the woodburner diffusing gently through the fabric of the building. There's no thermostat on the heating system, so the temperature inside the building fluctuates, depending on what you do with the woodburners and what the weather’s doing. Wood for the burners is cut ready for you, and is included in the price.
Lighting: Electric lights, interior and exterior, with normal light switches.
Showers/loos: we have a wc and a shower room with wc, downstairs, very close to the main bedroom. We provide loo roll, towels, shampoo and shower gel throughout.
Food: we have a tall fridge/freezer – plus, for your experimentation, a 1 cu ft. (zero-power) zeerpot to keep food cool. For cooking there’s the woodburner hob and oven - ready for anything, anytime (as long as you’ve kept it going). But for those who prefer it, there's also an LPG gas hob. We provide kitchen pots & pans and utensils, plates, glasses, mugs and cutlery, and washing-up things.
You can explore nearly all of our 70 acres (29 ha) of undulating pasture and wooded coastal slope. We have earned the rare accolade of Defra's Higher Level of Countryside Stewardship, which means our efforts to help wildlife flourish in this rare and beautiful slice of countryside have been recognised and are being encouraged.
We also have half a mile (1 km) of our own seashore. But be warned: getting all the way down there – and back up again – isn't something for the faint-hearted or dodgy of body! First, it’s a 15-min walk down a steep path through woodland, and then a fixed rope on the last 50 feet to help you scramble down the scree slope and haul yourself back up. Otherwise, there are conventional beaches at Millendreath or Seaton; both of these are a 20/25-minute walk or 5 mins by car.

On your arrival I'll spend a few minutes with you explaining how the systems work. After that it's up to you whether you join us for a glassa or just wave as you pass our own house on the way in and out.
Children irretrievably hooked on computer games probably won't have any more fun here than an adult who can't live without a microwave and a hairdryer.
But if you appreciate the countryside and like the idea of sustainability, if you’re happy to play simple musical instruments, board games, cards and charades, are willing to polish up the art of after-dinner conversation, and are ready to explore the great outdoors, you’re likely to find that this part of the world is pretty good really.
