The host, Livia, made a good arrangement with her friend to render the keys to the place. The apartment was on the third level which I was told that it was on the second floor. But I learned from some people there in Paris that France and USA have different flooring, that is 2nd floor in Paris is equivalent to the 3rd floor in USA. So.. that was okay.
However, very steep, narrow, and spiral staircases made it very difficult to carry suitcases upstairs and downstairs. It was a real nightmare to me.
The room was really small, and crowded. The owner who is a traveler herself displayed so much from her travel memorabilia that it was rather stuffy and no place to spare for my things.
Bed was the most uncomfortable to sleep in. I had to crawl into my sleeping bag to feel some comfort. The first night was very cold because I couldn't turn the heater on. There was no instruction of the heaters where the switches are and level of heating. Managed to find out later and heating works fine.
Very small kitchen area, so with my suitcases staying in the kitchen area, I had to switch around my body to move around. Very small shower room and toilet room.
Very nice collections of tea which I was happy to use. Thanks for that.
At the moment, there was some kind of construction going in the alley, so much dust as well as metal structures.. I bumped my head a few time to that metal post. Had difficulty getting that suitcase out when I left the place.
The neighborhood doesn't give any kind of comfort going around at night. This place is close to two underground metros, but I had a nightmare one night at the Victor Hugo Metro station. A few people snatched my camera backpack from my back plus a handbag and ran. I ran after them with a scream but I could not get them, of course. My other heavy camera bag plus another small purse were still where my backpack was taken. Anyway, it turned out all right, because lots of people outside the metro station ran after them, and because my camera backpack with tripod was so heavy, these thiefs could not run fast and left my backpack behind. The people who were running after them retrieved my bag and other small handbag which contained my passport. I was extremely lucky!! Yes.. I saw the end of my photographing passion.
All in all, my experience staying in this airbnb was not good at all.
I wish that airbnb has a policy about which floor the place is located and how many staircases in case there is no elevator. Also square footage of the room should be in the advertisement.
This was my first use of airbnb and left me with bitter taste.
