Wow. My friend and I loved our one night stay with Giorgi's parents' home.
Firstly, Giorgi was very responsive to our inquiries and upfront on the fact that he was actually in Dubai at the time and not onsite. His English is perfect, but his parents (who are hosting their home) only speak Georgian and Russian.
The location is maybe a 5-10 min drive from the Borjomi main bridge and very easy to miss at night. It is one road over from the road leading to the unmarked Borjomi National Park and right across the street from a Georgian "fast food place", which turned out to be the American approximation of a delicatessen. (cooked food in a glass case that you can select.)
The home itself is a time capsule from the Soviet era. There were some signs of construction in front, but the rest of the home including the room(s) we stayed in were relatively untouched from any updating or modernization efforts. The shared bathroom is an "outhouse" shed that feels like you are at a campsite, extremely rustic, with an quaint pull chain toilet and broken tiled floor. They did however have a tankless water heater installed. It took a bit of fussing to get the hot and cold faucet knobs adjusted, but once done, the shower head provided an extremely hot and satisfying shower. Also to note, while the bathroom was very old, it was VERY clean.
We had the pick of rooms since we were the only guests that night. There was one "private" room with 2 single beds that we chose. The mattresses are all different, ranging from very soft to rock hard. The "private" room requires you to walk though a larger shared room (with a full bed and 2 singles) in order to leave the home or to use the bathroom.
Onsite there are grape wines, a home garden brimming with tomatoes, a outdoor "gazebo" space well lit for hanging out at night, and a shared outdoor kitchen area along with a grilling area. There was also a very friendly Siamese cat that roams from the neighbor's yard.
Giorgi's mother generously welcomed us with fresh mint tea, cheese, fruit and bread, very relaxing after a long day of hiking and getting lost.
I recommend Giorgi's home wholeheartedly for an old school Georgian experience unmarred by modern touches. I really wish we could have stayed longer, thank you, please do not change a thing!
