"L'ALCOVE" is a quaint bedroom with a double bed, wardrobe, desk and, as its name suggests, an alcove with decorative features. This is your chance to sleep in an authentic 13th Century chateau and wake up to sweeping views over our orchard and down the Loire gorge. The private bathroom with shower and toilet is just across the hall and reserved for your use alone.
Chateau du Durianne is a 13th Century chateau located on a working organic farm in the center of France. The chateau was originally built as a fortress to protect Le Puy En Velay from raiders storming down the Loire gorge. The ancient building has been lovingly restored and furnished with pieces from the 17th and 18th Century but offers the modern conveniences you would expect.
Guests access their second floor bedroom via a stone staircase in one of the chateau's turrets. On the ground floor salon you will be served your Continental breakfast of organic produce from our farm and local producers. This space is also available to you as a sitting room with plenty of books and games for you to enjoy. An outdoor sitting area is also available as well as a table tennis table and trampoline for the children.

We are welcoming you to our home. It is a chateau that has been in my family for nearly 200 years as well as a working farm. We are happy to share the story of this amazing place with you as well as showing you our farm life. We have a flock of Bizet sheep - a rare breed from the Haute Loire - as well as goats, dogs, horses and pigs. The orchard contains over 100 heritage variety fruit trees and we also have a cottage garden. Our farmland and adjoining forest have been designated as a reserve for the rare Milan eagle. If you take the path to the top of our hill you may spot some eagles while enjoying the panoramic views of the Loire gorge. We have spent the last 20 years pursuing our philosophy of preserving both the natural and man-made environments of Durianne. We hope you can share this with us.
Nearly twenty years ago I moved my young family from Paris and took on a grand project - the restoration of my family's ancient home and the establishment of an organic farm with rare breed livestock. The chateau is a 13th century building that served as a fortress for 400 years guarding Le Puy En Velay (5 minutes drive away) from raiders coming down the Loire Gorge. When we arrived the chateau was in ruins but we have lovingly restored it returning it to its former glory. We have chosen to keep as many authentic features as possible but with the modern conveniences added! We have also established a flock of rare breed Bizet sheep - native to this area as well as restoring the ancient orchard and cottage garden. We have also designated our farmland and adjoining forest as a reserve for birds including the rare Milan eagle which we have found nesting on our property:
It is to this great work of conservation that we invite you - our philosophy is to preserve the heritage of this ancient building, ensure the sustainability of our farming and stewardship of our earth while maintaining harmony with the animals that share these environs with us.
Passionate about our local community, the environment and my family. I am happy to show people why I love where I live.
