Casa das Oliveiras is 1 of 6 independent houses on the stunning 50 hectares estate Monte West Coast, with a big swimming pool, located in a valley only 5 km from the beach! Restored in 2013 using traditional methods combined with modern comfort. 90m2
Located in a beautiful valley only 5 km away from the Odeceixe Beach. The house Casa das Oliveiras (Oliveira means olivetree in portuguese, there are several growing outside the house) was restored in 2013 using traditional methods combined with modern comfort. The walls are up to 60 cm thick and to a great extent original.
It's an independent house with two bedrooms, open space living room/ equipped kitchen and bathroom with bathtub.
The house has several big windows with a view towards the valley and a damm where otters have been spotted fishing early in the morning!
We've used traditional materials such as hydraulic mosaic tiles in the bathroom and in the kitchen, as well as rustic tiles on the floor of the entire house. There is also a fireplace which you can use during the winter. Never needed in the summer though!
Casa das Oliveiras is one of 6 independent houses we have restored so far on the 50 hectares estate Monte West Coast. Here used to be a farm with a water mill and houses for several families, locals know it as Moinho (water mill) Aboboreira.
The river Seixe passes in the middle of the estate, then in front of the town Odeceixe and reaches the ocean 5 km downstream from us, at the outstanding Odeceixe beach (voted one of the Seven Wonders in Portugal).
A heated outdoor swimming-pool with a big sun-deck is at the disposal of all of our guests. It is located up the hill with a magnificent view of our part of the valley.
We have a big moroccan tent decorated as a lounge in front of the river, and with a little boat anchored next to it. Feel free to use both of them whenever you please.
On the other side of the estate are the farm's animals, among which you will find for example goats, peacocks, ducks, chicken and a cat.
The estate is in a protected area, only 3 km from the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Driving inland from Monte West Coast you reach the mountains Serra de Monchique.
You easily reach Monte West Coast by turning towards Zambujeira de Baixo on the southern (Odeceixe) side of the Odeceixe bridge. This is, you make a right-turn just before the bridge if you are coming from the South, or a left-turn just after the bridge if you are coming from the North. The road then follows the river upstream for exactly 3 km (of which half is asphalt and the other half a dirt road in good conditions) and you have reached your destination. There is a space on the right where you can park your car. Walk down the stone stairs, cross the wooden bridge by foot and walk the stone-paved path 150 m to reach the houses.

I spend the biggest part of the summer, as well as many weekends along the year, in one of the houses on Monte West Coast so chances are big that we'll meet! If we're not around the housekeepers will be there to receive you and make sure you have a wonderful stay!
The house is cleaned during 30 minutes every day and sheets and towels are changed twice a week.
Monte West Coast is managed by our family through our company Patamar Violeta unip. lda
We are convinced that you will behave well, respecting our space as if it was your own.
Important: there is water all over the estate (river, dam and a pool), if travelling with children please keep this risk in mind!
NOTE: Check in during the day. We ask you to please not arrive after the sunset the first day, since it'll be harder for you to find your way to the house in the dark (the area is only sparsely lit up to respect the animals living here. We have utters in the river!) and the housekeepers can only meet you at the house until 6-7 pm.

I have a swedish mum and a portuguese dad. Moved to Lisbon from Stockholm in 2009. Since we came across Monte West Coast, which now belongs to my husband and me, this is where we spend almost all of our weekends and holidays. We have two sons, born 2010 and 2012, and a daughter born 2016!
