Sunny, great kitchen. Private garden patio with fire pit/BBQ. 3+ bedroom/2 bath, dog-friendly, within easy walking distance to truly fine dining, the Upper Sacramento River and cool shops. We have new pricing June 2017 that allows smaller parties to book for a substantially lower fee. Strings attached: # beds, how many floors used and a few more), but this can really be great for smaller parties. Contact us for a quote for 4 or more guests or 3+ nights. Lodging tax 12% charged separately.
The Fish & Ski Haus has a quirky layout. It works for almost all of our guests but privacy is limited with the downstairs bedrooms since one must walk through the first to get to the second and the second bathroom. The Haus has almost four bedrooms (the 4th is really the top of the landing from downstairs, but it works), 2 baths, a laundry room and a lovely kitchen that opens onto the patio with fire pit and BBQ. It is priced for 2 guests and additional guests are $15 each per night up to a total of 6 guests of any age (except infants). We'll consider a few more, but do not want large, nor rowdy parties. Our housekeeper lives nearby and she keeps a close eye on the Haus.
We are dog-friendly with friendly dogs. There is a $15 charge per dog, per stay. The dog fee is paid separate from AIR along with the 12% lodging tax.
Alpine Ski & Fish Haus in Dunsmuir is just minutes off I-5 and perfectly located for skiers, fishers, hikers and travelers. We may offer late check-outs (up to 5 PM; some restrictions apply) as well as very low rates for travelers just passing through (one-night stays with limited use of kitchen). Spend the night, the weekend, or the week!
Our location is ideal: Walk to the upper Sacramento River in 5-10 minutes! We love the train that runs through town, and are far enough away from the tracks that it doesn't sound as though it's in the Haus. I-5 is far enough away to avoid the constant hum of traffic.
There are wonderful amenities throughout, including a laundry room with washer & dryer (soap and dryer towels provided). There is a very well set up kitchen with Keurig coffee maker (we have the world's best water with zero chemicals. How cool is that?), regular coffee maker, Cuisinart, toaster, blender, juicer, crystal, china and more. It has lovely antiques and furnishings, with especially comfortable beds.
The Haus works well for folks who like to settle in and walk to excellent restaurants, pubs & shops. Cafe' Maddalena (fabulous), La Perla de Nayarit and Dunsmuir Brewery Works & Restaurant are all within a few mostly-flat blocks of our place.
Morning sun streams into the living room. The private back patio is just off the kitchen and has afternoon shade.
Whether you ski or hike Shasta, climb Castle Crags, fish the upper Sacramento River and McCloud area, or just hang out and read, you'll enjoy the Haus as your home base.
You will have all of the Haus and all of Dunsmuir is close at hand, including fishing & swimming spots on the Upper Sacramento River, Hedge Creek and Mossbrae Falls, the brew pub, great restaurants, the botanical gardens and much more are all within a few minute's walk to a few minute's drive from the Haus. Most of it is in easy walking distance!

We live on the Trinity River in Trinity County, so guests usually don't see us unless they come our way later. Our housekeeper lives nearby and is right there if guests need anything.
We have had trouble with guests streaming so much that they depleted our very expensive package. We ask guests to stream no more than a couple of shows a day so that they and future guests have access to the internet, but we have learned we just can't promise internet service will be plentiful nor totally predictable. This troubles us, but after hundreds of dollars wasted due to thoughtless guests, we just have to leave it as we have.
The kitchen really is especially nicely outfitted. Most guests who brought their essentials reported they didn't need to.
TREAT OUR PLACE WITH RESPECT & WE WILL TREAT YOU IN KIND
No smoking inside.
Shoes off inside during winter (we have a nice mud room with bench for this).
Guests with dogs agree to keep pets off furniture, or to bring sheets to cover it.
We give you a nice and clean place and want to get it back in good shape.
Daily housekeeping (as needed) is expected of guests. We expect to do laundry, change linens, do a thorough vacuuming and mopping, clean windows and bathrooms, and generally freshen the place.
Guests agree to leave clean dishes, wipe down counters and stove, clean up cooking messes, keep floors generally clean and the Haus tidy.
DO NOT DUMP FIRE PIT/BBQ ASHES IN THE GARDEN! It hurts the plants and messes up the pH balance.

My husband, Steph Dutton, and I own and run Dunsmuir's Alpine Ski & Fish Haus and Trinity River Adventure Inn river cabins.
Steph is the only person to paddle a kayak from Victoria, B.C. Canada to Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. I worked on tug boats before heading to Alaska to start the Sitka Sea Kayak Adventure, and that's where we met. We are both Coast Guard licensed sea captains who created and ran Sanctuary Cruises, a great whale watching company on the Monterey Bay.
We have 5 river cabins in Lewiston and Douglas City in Trinity County, as well as the Alpine Haus in Dunsmuir (Siskiyou County). We love skiing Shasta and established Dunsmuir as our own ski retreat, but find it immensely fun to visit year-round. We live right on the Trinity River and we love it, but we enjoy Dunsmuir's wonderful restaurants within walking distance (several are pet-friendly in summer on their patios!).
