The room is part of the old farmhouse where the century-old “brakdak” ceilings are still visible. The Orchard Room is believed to be the coolest in the entire house due to the clay and reed construction of the old ceilings. Ceiling fans and air conditioning keep the cool air moving and create a comfortable space from which to enjoy the courtyard and its quaint, four-spout fountain.

The room offers a king-size bed and a sitting area with a reading lamp. There is a coffee station with a kitchen basin, a bar fridge, a television set with DSTV, a ceiling fan and airconditioner, underfloor heating and Persian carpets.

The king-size bed and the beautifully restored Victorian-style black and white bathroom exude luxury and opulence feeling. The bedroom has underfloor heating, a shower and an antique Victorian bath as well as a double vanity. The room has access to its own terrace and boasts calm garden views.

Built in the 18th century, the old Mirtehof farmstead has its roots stretching deep into the soil and rich history of Prince Albert. It remembers the broken heart of a young CJ Langenhoven. It breathes the quiet magic of the sunny Karoo, looks up with joy to the epic starry skies, and carries the hopes and dreams of those exploring its treasures.

We opened our doors in September 2018 and even though the farm is far from a new kid on the block, we’re a new luxury accommodation option. We’re perfect for a Karoo honeymoon, a rejuvenating break from the concrete jungle, or a well-deserved romantic escape.

Mirtehof is perfectly located on the edge of town. Guests wake up to the relaxed ambience of a small working farm, with beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, especially from the stoep. Breakfast is an authentic local affair, enhanced by what is crispy, fresh and tasty from our garden.

Whether you unwind on the stoep, take a walk to visit our donkeys or enjoy some breathtaking birding, there’s always something to do. Mirtehof is also a great base to explore the town and surroundings with an abundance of activities and experiences just waiting to be discovered.

Our town and region offers something special for every visitor. Prins Albert is well known for it’s uniques, Art Deco theathre where a variety of productions are presented from time to time. The African Relish cooking school offers cooking courses for the aspiring chef. The Swartbergpass and Gamkaskloof 4 x 4 routes are worldrenowned and worth a visit. Prins Albert is also well know for olives and visiting a working olive farm comes highly recommended. Olilve tastings and tours are offered. Gay’s dairy farm also offers tours and samplings of their delicious dairy products. Angora goat farming also happens in the region and the local shop offers a great variety of angora products, from socks to blankets. The Fransie Pienaar Museum offers a look at the culturally rich history of the region and there are many artists who have made Prins Albert their home, so there is no lack of studios to visit.
