Looking for paradise? Have I found a deal for you! Ivan's sweet condo at Mira Vista Costa Azul. We just left yesterday. We left physically, that is, but our hearts are still there...where you can hear the breakers from the Sea of Cortez pounding the beach, where you can faintly smell salt air, where you can watch the sun rise and turn the water gold, where every morning the beautifully landscaped grounds offer you a new crop of hibiscus the size of dinner plates, where it's blissfully quiet, where the residents talk in soft tones so as not to disturb.
Well, enough prose (though I could go on ad infinitum). Ivan will stay with you every step of the way until you get through the front door. The description of his home on the AirBnB website is precise. That view you see on the website from his sliding patio doors? It's that and more because you'll have a thousand other sensory experiences while you're looking at it.
The city center IS walkable, however it was a bit much for me. No problem -- the bus stops right in front of the complex every 20 minutes and for pennies you can be in the central plaza in minutes. As you will read anywhere, avoid the taxis -- they're way overpriced and the buses are so comfortable and easy as an alternative.
Ivan's home there is immaculate. The kitchen is arranged intuitively; I never had to spend more than a few seconds looking for anything and all the kitchen equipment is in good working order.
The bathroom is beautifully tiled and in good working order.
The bed is a queen, as you can read on the website. It is quite comfortable and Ivan has lovely damask sheets for it.
The air conditioning is excellent, if a bit loud, but we'll take that any day over being hot and miserable with a poorly working A/C.
The location gives one access to a variety of great restaurants up or down the beach from Mira Vista, not the least of which is Zippers with a constant parade of really, REALLY interesting people, mostly Anglos. We generally try to stick with the locals, but Zippers is worth it for sheer entertainment (and great food). The location is also especially good if you do NOT want to be in the midst of the Spring break debauchery down in Cabo San Lucas...or pay Cabo San Lucas prices.
Oh, yes, lastly, value for the money? You'll not do better. If you're looking at this, you've already seen the prices for rooms at the hotels in the area. They're absurd. Ivan's little home in San Jose is modestly and reasonably priced. You can't do better.
Thank you, Ivan, for providing this beautiful respite -- it restored our souls and gladdened our hearts.
