Welcome to our Big Yellow House in SE's Hosford/Clinton neighborhood, described as both bustling and tranquil. While it is on a corner, guests will feel the peace and quiet of this amazing house on entering. Trees & flowers? Yes!
At the Big Yellow House you'll enjoy the best of both Portland worlds. If you prefer quiet, you'll find it here. If you want to feel connected to the energy of Southeast Portland without the Hawthorne traffic and crowds, this is a good choice.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Besides The Big Yellow House in SE Portland, there is A SEPARATELY LISTED BEDROOM FOR THE SAME HOUSE. Check both for availability and choose the one you want. The Big Yellow House in SE bedroom is larger and has a queen 4-poster bed (see photos). The Big Yellow House 2 bedroom is smaller with a double bed. (see photos) The other amenities are the same. Prices are different.
If you are bringing kids or if you want to share the room (up to 3 people) arrangements can be made to add an extra bed/s. There is a shared full bath with clawfoot tub and shower , and a half bath on the 1st floor as well. Coffee, tea and a breakfast that varies: fruit, yogurt, granola, muffins, breakfast quiche, etc. are served.
The Yellow House sits on the corner overlooking the neighborhood. In the distance are the West Hills, closer in, the trees and houses of Southeast, even closer, 26th Avenue-full of cyclists on their way to work, students on their way to school, and cars, too. You can relax on the porch and watch the people go by.
The streets and sidewalks will lead you to lovely homes, quiet parks and community gardens.
I love the Willamette River and all the bridges that span it. I also love these experiences: watching the fireworks set off from barges on the river, enjoying a concert at Riverside Park, walking along the riverfront promenades and eating at a pier side restaurant as the boats and kayaks glide by. I think you'll love all of this too.
There are 2 buses that are just a couple of minute's walk. Bus 9, a block away, takes you downtown. Bus 4 is 3-4 blocks away on Division Street. It goes to a different part of downtown. From the main stops you can connect with the Max or trolley, or other buses.
There is school traffic for a little while in the morning and afternoon (but none in summer) You can also park away from that area in front of my house on 26th. I actually feel that the school and the kids add to the character of the area, and the street lights everywhere add to the safe and secure feeling.
Your private space is a bedroom on the second floor. *** If you want to occupy both bedrooms, ask about the "Family and Friends Deal" I will make a special price based on the season and day. For example, the cost of one bedroom in high season could be 75 or 80 dollars per room/night. The cost of the entire floor, including the bathroom would be about 130 per night. *** (4 adults, and $20 each for extra guests.)
Besides your own space, the community space includes the living room, laundry facilities, kitchen during breakfast, sun porch and outside porches and gardens. Let me know if you have any dietary preferences regarding breakfast.
Interakcija s gostima
To ensure a peaceful space for guests I'll be as unobtrusive as possible. If you want to interact, however, that would be great. I will often be around if you would like to chat about life in Portland (or elsewhere) or ask questions about interesting sights.
There is school traffic at 8am and at 3pm (but none in summer) and you can't hear it from inside the house.
You can also park away from that area in front of my house on 26th. The school and the students add to the character of the area, and the street lights everywhere add to the feeling of protection. City of Portland permit-15-135322-000-00-HO

I am a single woman. You can see by the photo I'm no spring chicken, but still working when I feel like it, as a substitute teacher. I worked overseas for 15 years, and traveled a lot. Loved it! And I like to open my house to guests. Last summer for example I invited a houseful of Chinese middle and elementary school students and 5 adults (12 in all). It was lively and lots of fun. I can't live without flowers and trees, art on the walls, morning coffee, friends and last but not least, my kids. Music: Pandora is playing salsa, folk, doo-wop, Etta James, and Mozart. Mostly remember: Korea, Japan, Istanbul, Paris, Nice. I love biographies and history, gardening books and cookbooks. I think I have a weird sense of humor cause my favorite films are Bananas and Take the Money and Run, Marx Brothers films, and The Big Lebowsky. Anyway, I'm a laid-back host and I will stay invisible unless you want to interact. The saying you'll hear most from me is "It'll work out!"
