My colorful, comfortable, beautiful bachelor apartment is away from high rise hotels. If you want to have a real island experience, this is the place to be, at the other side of the island, in San Nicolas. The beaches are only 5 - 8 minutes away.
My apartment can accommodate two people comfortably. What makes my listing unique is that it is so un-touristy. I am aware that nowadays people want to experience the real thing. People want a real connection with the culture and its people when they travel. My place is right smack in the center of San Nicolas, which has a rich history going back to the coming of the oil refinery, over 60 years ago, where more than 90 nationalities, 9000 employees, came to work here and lived together in harmony and created the birth place of Carnival in Aruba, the steel pan, and calypso music, which originated from Trinidad and Tobago.
My guests will have access to: Visiting the nearby beaches such as Rodger's beach where you can buy fresh fish from the fishermen, Baby beach, known for its shallow waters, great for snorkeling. Boca Grandi the best beach and ideal conditions, for kite surfing in Aruba. Mangel Halto beach where you can go kayaking or snorkeling in and around mangroves. The caves on the north side, that Aboriginals used to inhabit and our well-kept and protected National Park Arikok. The Carubbian Festival, every Thursday in San Nicolas, where the main street is closed off and you can dance to live music, see a Carnival show, complete with a parade down the street, where every one is encouraged to join in, local cuisine and alcoholic beverages are on sale. Then there is Zee Rover, 10 minutes away, a popular seafood restaurant where you can eat freshly caught fish and shrimps with your fingers, served on a brown piece of paper, overlooking the docked fishermen boats and marina, or you can buy the catch of the day and take it home to cook it your self.
Close by is Flying Fishbone, where you can sit right on the beach, with your feet in the water if you wish so and where you can experience the most beautiful sunsets. Don't worry about getting your feet all wet and sandy. They have a special place where you can wash the salt of your feet and dry them off with towels
A few must visits in San Nicolas are:
Charlie's Bar, very popular with visitors on the island, filled with memorabilia, from many visitors from all over the world. Rum and Reef, bar and restaurant in Seroe Colorado, between Baby Beach and Rodger's Beach. So after your swim, you can go and have a meal here and chat with Maureen, a friendly host and bartender.

I will be there for them in the afternoon/evening weekdays, the evening on saturday and most of the day on sundays, as much as they like and need me.
I would be happy to have basic food supplies like breakfast, beverages, snacks ready in the fridge so if you arrive on a late flight, there will be food for the next morning till you have a chance to go shopping. There is also a pre-paid use of electricity card. I will make sure I have one for your arrival, so you have electricity. You can reimburse the money when you arrive. I will have extra cards on hand in case you run out of electricity. You can rent a car at the airport on arrival or take a taxi to the apartment. Please discuss all these details in advance with me so that everything will runs smoothly.
I would like my guests and I to treat each other with mutual respect and always let it be known of any concerns or issues you may have and I will try my best to resolve them in a decent manner. The only rule is to have FUN!

I am an Aruban born Canadian, so Aruban by nature and Canadian by nurture. Have lived and worked in Toronto and New York, as a performing artist and an educator, combined for over 30 years, gives me a good idea what experiences guests long for. Nowadays a lot of people want an authentic experience when they travel abroad and connect with the local people and its culture in its own environment. And in this way building life long meaningful relationships and repeat visits.

As a guest i would be respectful and find out what the "protocol" is in your home. what is expected and stick to the arrangement. i would like to get to know my host as a person and also to get tips on where to go, to eat etc. I would let my host know when to expect me back and call if i am going to be late if I am sharing a house.
As a host I would do all of the above and do my best to make it a wonderful experience. i would invite my guests for a welcome drink, coffee or a meal. I would make sure everything was clean and in working order.
My motto for life is: when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
I prefer to look at my glass as half full rather than half empty.
