I spent the month of August reveling in the rural beauty and serenity of this wonderful farmhouse in the Catskills. Tucked away on a gravel road with forests and fields all around, the idyllic setting creates the perfect atmosphere to create and recreate. The house is comfortable, very functional and filled with captivating books, films and music. The entire experience whispered "artistic retreat" ... garden dew in the morning, grocery shopping in the tiny village of Milanville, dog walks down the red, red road, gorgeous sunsets taken from the front porch, starlit nights.
While Sonya tries to meet guests, in our case it wasn't possible due to scheduling. Instead, we communicated flawlessly via email. Every question I had concerning household operation was quickly and competently answered. Sonya reached out via email several times to make sure everything was okay and to see if I had any questions. In short, Sonya was a perfect host.
Our chocolate lab, Beta, was equally impressed. The front yard is long and narrow and allows for games of fetch. Walks along the gravel roads in several different directions are very enjoyable for both dog and owner. Cars and trucks, while rare, sometimes drive fast and arrive unexpectedly so either perfect voice control or a leash are recommended.
There are outdoors activities such as fishing and rafting available close by. Honesdale provides small town wandering, eating, friendly folks and fun weekend events. There are many small rural bergs in the area, each providing something of character to view and explore.
I look forward to returning with my wife who, as a musician, will undoubtedly find inspiration in this peaceful, intriguing and intellectually stimulating farmhouse and rural area.
