Thank you for your evaluation. Our house is in the centre of the city as we show on the listing, but not on one of the main streets which tend to be noisy day and night. The room you had is my favourite, most people love the idea of a bedroom and sala, and the little garden with space to sit with a tea (free for people's pleasure). Also it is the coolest room in the house, with fresh air coming from the Bay at night and early morning. Our terraza has some interesting plants – cactus which are always in flower, ginger plants for our meals and tea, coffee, moringa and fragipani and herbs.
Many of our guests enjoy a personalized map to help them find things quickly. In fact some people take them a souvenirs of their stay. Santiago uses the old street names in preference to the new – not useful if you get lost. Of course we would never insist that someone take our maps and the information. However I know we sat and talked for quite a while about Cuban things and the little walk we recommend – so perhaps I misunderstood.
I am so very sorry you found our house disagreeable – we try to keep our chatting and laughing down when guests are around, and also when we are working in the kitchen everyone has a task and we tend to concentrate on that (sharp knives!). Your visit coincided with one of our staff being most unwell in hospital, another with a sick child and the rest of us being extremely busy with two people absent and all of us concerned for their well-being. But still our previous and subsequent guests seem to have had a good time with us. Aren't perceptions of origin strange – I have lived almost 3 times as long outside Britain as I lived there and mainly in the Americas and Cuba – and yet still those centuries old perceptions come back to haunt us – really Eartha Kitt was correct – an Englishman (or woman) needs time!
Your remark about the breakfast is a mystery. I checked after you had been at breakfast for a few minutes, and I sat with you at the breakfast table to answer your questions and you said nothing about not liking the breakfast. Our breakfast are usually considered to be excellent with a variety of fruit, cheese, ham, local honey, coffee and eggs. If you didn't like something or even worse it was not to our high standard, we would have replaced it immediately.
I realize that we had a communication problem over your departure time. You had told me that you had a ticket for the 6am departure and had to take that bus because of travelling on from there. I therefore arranged to get up at 4.00 so that you would have a nice hot cup of coffee (free) before you left. At 5.30am I was anxious that you not miss your bus, and so knocked on your door – at which time you told me you were leaving later – I apologized for waking you and continued to wait for you as we have to check out all our guests. I waited with your bici-taxi driver until you left around 7.30a.m. I did look around but I couldn't find a note to say that you were leaving later so obviously there had been a change in your plans. We always look after our departing guests as best we can – many like to take a hot packed breakfast with them, buy extra water, or just take a cup of coffee.
