Hello Amy and Peter,
Thank you for your high praise on the cleanliness of our home and complimenting the large space of the home. We are glad that you liked the Netflix and Wi-Fi. We also provide Amazon prime and Pandora for our guests on the 50 inch flat screen Samsung TV. We were happy to call ahead for you both and make a dinner reservation and request the best lake view seat in the house for your anniversary:-) We were glad that you loved the food and view from the deck of the restaurant that overlooks Lake Champlain and the Vermont Green Mountains as well as the hike recommendation to climb Rattlesnake Mountain, a short 50 minute hike that offers a spectacular view of Willsboro Point, Lake Champlain, Burlington, VT and the Vermont Green Mountains. We are always happy to recommend great hikes to our guests if asked. Lastly, thank you for your kind words on my thoughtfulness and kindness and willingness to ensure that you were comfortable or needed anything during your stay. I appreciated it:-) We loved that you felt the area was beautiful and worth the visit! We are grateful you left our home spotless. Thank you:-)
Some of your review, however, left me confused and disappointed in your take away as we have worked so hard and continue to work hard to provide an excellent experience for our guests...
We never described the beach/lake access as "private" as mentioned in your review. Beach/lake access is just that, an access point to get to the beach/lake. The beach/lake access was labeled in the description on Airbnb as a beach/lake access to swim at. Since your review, I have provided further information in writing under the beach/lake access picture on our listing in order to provide absolute clarity.
You described, "we needed to wander through people's backyards in order to get to the beach" The accurate description of the beach/lake access is, you access the beach by walking down a mowed grass path in between 2 properties. One side of the path are tall trees and bushes that lines the length of the path and the other side of the path is the far side of a property owners lawn that is rarely there. This is quite typical of a lake/beach access path.
Our beach/lake access is very conducive for swimming. Our area of Lake Champlain in Willsboro Bay is super clean (you can see the bottom of the lake and your feet while standing in deep water) and provides hours of daily fun for kids and adults to swim during the summer. I have been swimming in this bay for over 50 years. When you walk into the lake (as you do with any lake) it starts out shallow but as you continue to walk further into the water, it gets deeper and deeper. It may have seemed more shallow to you as we've had a drought this summer and the lake level is lower than normal near the shore.
I corresponded with you ahead of time to recommend the use of water shoes due to the small possibility of stepping on a zebra mussel and for the comfort of walking on the beach and in the water where there are small stones. This was a proactive recommendation. I have since updated the beach/lake access with pictures so others can see firsthand how clean the water is and how beautiful the view.
In addition to the patio chairs (these stay on the beach), we do have beach chairs at the house to bring down to the beach/lake access. I forgot to put these beach chairs out when I provided the kayak paddles and life vests for you. I take full responsibility for forgetting. Since your review we have added a garden style pull cart with large wheels that guests can put things in to bring down to the beach/lake access. The beach/lake access is not our property, but part of our deed that allows access to the lake and beach to swim. Several homes in the neighborhood share this 25 foot beach access, but they rarely use it as they have other water access points. As part of the deed we are not allowed to leave multiple chairs/table/supplies on the beach. Just as you go to any beach, it is carry in, carry out. The owner is lenient and very kind to allow for kayaks and a few chairs to be left on the beach as he is rarely there.
There are 2 Sea Kayaks (sturdy sit on top) that can be rented if desired for $50 for the first day (cost includes 2 kayaks, paddles and life jackets) and $25 per day thereafter.
In your review you described me as very willing to ensure that you were comfortable. I wished you had texted me and asked if we had any beach chairs. You texted me during your stay when you needed salt, pepper and olive oil and I was happy to go to the grocery store and deliver those items to you. I would have been happy to bring you the reclining beach chairs.
We were able to correspond via text during your stay. I was unsure why you mentioned in your review you had no cell service or why Verizon service isn't available. As I described on our listing, Verizon is spotty. You are able to text and at times even make and receive calls on Willsboro Point if you have Verizon or Sprint. If you travel into town there is ample cell service from Verizon. AT&T cell service is very good in the area.
I meet with all renters at check in for 10 minutes to welcome them, make a connection and show them first hand a few things about the house that will make their stay more comfortable and their check out seamless. I communicate prior with guests when I feel it will make their stay more pleasant or easier to get to our location or during their stay when answering their questions. I meet with guests at check out only if I am asked to or when guests bring pets so I can do a walkthrough of the house as Airbnb does not cover pet damages.
Amy, your comment that I am "very involved and likes to communicate often" could be misconstrued between the difference of being respectful to our guests privacy and vacation time and simply being kind and providing the necessary info when asked to enhance ones stay with additional info.
