Are you sick of Ikea furniture? Bad English? Anonymous and sterile apartments?
NO Ikea, a REAL HOME with a local feel and deal with an Australian host with sensational local recommendations!
Long-term visitors welcome :-)
A LARGE (115m2), QUIET, secluded, elevated (top floor) and quiet double balcony flat in an (externally) renovated 1907 heritage listed building.
High ceilings (3.8 M) and wooden parquetry floors throughout give it the quintessential Budapest feel. There are no overhead residences (just an unoccupied loft apartment) meaning there is no noise from upstairs neighbours. Essential appliances include washing machine, dishwasher, iron, TV-DVD (but no TV cable subscription), oven and gas stove.
THE BUILDING: Designed by architect Fodor Gyula, this is the real Budapest - built during the imperial zenith of the Austro-Hungarian empire (1907), it is designed in the style transitioning between the Vienna Secession (Central European Noveau) and Art Deco, has a beautiful lobby and internal cloisters/corridors. It is situated in the epicentre of down-town Pest's heave and grind, with a comfortable 10 minute walk to all restaurants, bars and galleries, but in a quiet and breezy street.
SLEEPING: 1 x queen sized bed; 1 x single bed; 1 x double sofa bed in living room.
THE HISTORY: It is a mix between ''what Budapest was'' (grand and ostentatious) but also has stark reminders of socialism we endured for 40 years (retro elevator, mish-mash of odd tiles in public areas and historical wear-and-tear)! For anyone who has seen 'The Grand Budapest', the building is like the contemporary state of the Grand Budapest Hotel - retaining its opulent past but prevailing with its marks of history. It's a mix between the historical realities of pre-WWI, socialism and the now!
THE LOCATION: The flat is a 5 minute walk to both Keleti (Eastern) Railway Station so you can dump your things and hit town straight away. Also 5 minutes away is Blaha Lujza square on the main ring road which has the two main forms of transport in the city - the Red Metro Line 3 and the 4-6 Tram that goes along the main ring road. The floor is above any other visible buildings so privacy is guaranteed.
Check-in and check-out is generally flexible - please get in touch how you'd like it and we can see what can be done.
