The two Twin cottages are mirror images of each other. There is one queen bed in an alcove and two twin beds in each living area. They have apartment kitchens with dining for four, dressing rooms with lavatory separate from the shower and toilet. Usually we rent them one at a time, but the Twins rented together are a favorite for couples traveling together or family groups, eight, or even 10 people with two futon for kids. They boast amazing views of the forest and the pasture!

The Twins share

Prostor

We are a quiet mile off Hwy 11, 5 minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Visitor Center, with 12 acres up against the forest reserve and the National Park. A little private village that we have developed since 1979, and have been operating as an eco-B&B since 1986. Within a couple miles are 8-10 restaurants, multiple gift shops and museums, within the National Park and Volcano Village, not to mention major hiking!

We have 3 cottages, 2 apartments, 2 big houses with 3 bedrooms, 3 baths each, yoga studio and Breakfast Lanai, with small farm (cows, ducks, fish) and native rainforest. Alan does the buildings with fine finish work and Bonnie does the farming and gardening. We operate our B&B together.

Twin One and Twin Two are mirror images of each other. They share a greenhouse covered courtyard with a fig tree and hang-out furniture, so are often rented together. Each has a queen bed in an alcove, and two twin beds in the living area. Each has a kitchen and dining area as well. The lavatory is in a dressing room/luggage space, with the shower and toilet separate.

We also provide a casual continental breakfast buffet in our big, greenhouse Breakfast Lanai, with lots of local fruit, cereal, bagels and muffins, home-made cinnamon rolls, coffee, tea, cocoa, juice. We leave it all out from early morning until everyone has eaten, very informal.

We welcome singles, couples, families, reunions and retreats for up to 35, wi-fi throughout, hot tub, snacks in the Breakfast Lanai 24/7. We line-dry our linens and provide use of washer and lines for guests. Hot water is solar-assisted, recycling bins are convenient, and beds have electric mattress pads, so you can sleep cozy.

We are a favorite place for scientists and researchers as well as college classes and yoga and taichi retreats. We host groups from Europe and Asia but also lots of young people and families from Australia and New Zealand as well as North America.

rules
This is the smallest bedroom in 'Olapa House. It shares kitchen and living room with two other bedrooms. No smoking, no kids unless you are renting the whole house. (We have other units that are better for families.) Be prepared to be a good sharer.

We sometimes allow pets, in some units, but only by prior permission.

Our pets do not go in the guest units.
Our Heeler dog is around and the neighbors' small dogs and cats visit, but please do not let any of them inside. That cute friendly miniature poodle? She likes to dump trash cans...

Beautiful grounds and a comfortable cottage. Very easy access to volcano national park which we wanted for some hiking. The hot tub is a plus after long hiking days! Private and secluded. Loved it!

Bonnie's guest house was awesome! It's settled off the road in a beautiful jungle. We loved how peaceful and quiet it was. It was some of the best sleep we had on the trip. The rooms had everything we needed and we really loved the breakfast lanai. The jacuzzi was amazing. Thanks again Bonnie, we really enjoyed our stay!

Staying for four days at Bonnie's Vocalano Village's Twin One place was delightful. The cabin is cozy, and the place is really very close to the Volcano National Park. We had the opportunity to visit the park every night and to follow the eruptions since the very first day. Bonnie is a very friendly hostess, and a very respectful human being.

Unique and fantastic forest environment around the house. Very near to the volcano national park. Clean and warm rooms. Free Breakfast with varieties of bread and fruits. Clear guidance with map of the nearby area provided by Bonnie and her husband, who are very nice people. I love this place and will definitely recommend to others!

That is me, Bonnie and hubby and co-innkeeper Alan Miller in the photo, with our daughter, Joan, off to the left. Joan is also around helping us run Volcano Guest House. That photo was taken in Lijiang, Yunnan, China last year when we were on OUR trip of a lifetime, guided by our daughter-in-law, Jingjing Zhang, from Datong, who is married to our son Noel. They live in Bellevue Washington, and work in technology.

I, Bonnie, was born on Maui, grew on on Kauai and Oahu, went to college in Ohio, and lived on a Greek island for a year before coming back to Hawaii where I made a career in community organizing - the community gardens in Honolulu, our local park's public/private partnership here in Volcano, community development planning and social justice advocacy for various county, state, and feds before turning to full-time work at our B&B in 2000, when we went from 2 to five units. I come from Iowa farm and Melungeon stock, thus my milk cows and ducks. Nowadays, I take care of the reservations and landscape and farm.

Alan built it all, starting in 1979, when we moved to this place and lived in a tent for the first year. He continues to maintain it, take care of the breakfast fixins and welcome you. He was born in Lima, Peru of parents from New York and Arkansas, including Hawaii Missionary ancestors. Alan has been a special ed teacher and builder, building and remodeling homes for a cadre of long time client/friends until he, too, went full-time on the B&B when we went to more cottages and houses in 2006.
