Welcome to our cozy home in Ridgewood, Queens! Our apartment is a 2-bedroom apartment laid out "railroad" style, meaning you walk through one room to get to the other. It is ideal for couples or families, but there are doors on each room if privacy with friends is preferred.
We have a roomy backyard that is lovely to sit and enjoy a morning coffee while planning the day ahead (won't find this many places in NYC!).
Ridgewood is a quiet neighborhood on the border of Bushwick, Brooklyn.
Our apartment is on the first floor (no walk-ups(!), although there are 5 steps to get into the building) which includes a spacious backyard. Our kitchen is fully stocked and we encourage cooking! We have basic spices and necessities in the cupboard and refrigerator that are free for you to use.
-The main bedroom has a queen sized bed for 2 people to share. There is a dresser with a couple empty drawers for storage.
-The second room has a fold out sofa which can sleep two people, although I will admit it is a firmer couch. If you like soft mattresses, you should claim the main room!
-The small living room has a couch that one person is more than welcome to sleep on, although note that this space does not have a private door.
There is one AC unit for the entire apartment. It is in the second room, but cools both bedrooms if the outer door is shut. The weather is creeping in to fall though and with a few windows open, the breezes are quite nice and cool the apartment comfortably.
Being that we have a backyard, we would be fine if you brought a small dog with you, but please let us know in advance. We do have neighbors and if your dog is a loud barker, we may ask that you not choose to stay here. Likewise, we have a vegetable garden in the backyard, so we ask that you keep an eye on your pooch so they do not disturb the veggies! If anything is ripe, feel free to harvest and enjoy!
If you are traveling with small children, please let us know if you have specific needs. We will try to accommodate them :)
You can access the private backyard during your entire stay. We ask that you please keep the volume down as we do have neighbors on all sides and many are elderly. We have a vegetable garden and you are more than welcome to harvest and eat anything that is ripe. There is a charcoal grill that you are welcome to use if you feel comfortable lighting charcoal. There is charcoal available in the bin next to the grill.
**There is a fire pit in the backyard that is NOT usable. It is illegal in NYC to have a fire pit, so we ask that you do not use it**

We are traveling for the duration of your stay so my brother will be letting you in to the apartment and will be on hand if you need anything. He lives 3 apartments away on the same block and has a 9-5 schedule. My sister-in-law and niece live there as well and they are more than happy to help should anything come up that we cannot help with via phone.
We are both food and agriculture advocates and practice a zero-waste lifestyle as much as possible. While in our home, we ask that you recycle and compost - but don't worry! all the bins are provided and we leave detailed instructions on what goes in each bin so there is no confusion.
We welcome everyone to our home regardless of ethnicity, race, religion, gender or sexual preference <3
- Please only smoke in the backyard.
- Please do not use the outside fire pit.
- Please recycle and compost in the provided bins.
Hey there! I am Emily and I have been living in New York for nearly 7 years. My boyfriend Joey and I live together in Ridgewood, Queens. I am originally from Memphis, Tennessee and Joey is half from Kauai, HI & half from Greenville, SC. We both enjoy traveling (as I'm sure most anyone reading this does!) and spent 6 months last year farming around Europe. It is my personal goal to visit 30 countries by the time I turn 30 in December 2018. I am currently at 16, so I have a ways to go in a year and a half! Tell me where I should go next!
Joey is a chef and I work in food and agriculture and have worn many hats over the past few years - from bartender to butcher, events coordinator to farmer, and compost educator - the runnings of our food system and hospitality are my passion.
After farming for 6 months in Europe last year, and then exploring another part of New York State for 9 months, we finally settled in Ridgewood, Queens, NY - a quaint little neighborhood on the border of Brooklyn. I have spent the majority of my years in NYC living in Manhattan, so the change has been quite nice. Ridgewood is an old school neighborhood that is much more laid back than the grind of the city. Relax in our backyard (!) and message me for any other information about us.
Welcome to Queens!
