We thank you for your very helpful feedback, as that is how we can make improvements! We have addressed the items you listed. There will be a new sponge in the kitchen sink each time. Any food left behind by previous guests will be given to a local needy family (we were already throwing out perishables but missed the bag of chips). We will still keep the containers of olive/vegetable oil, pancake syrup, mustard, ketchup, etc., as those are staples that might be needed. The two missing smoke detectors have been replaced. As for the “reek” of smoke, we did have a group staying prior that included smokers (who are instructed to smoke outside, but often the smell lingers on clothing when they come back inside). After we read your review, we made sure to wash all the comforters and pillows, besides just sheets and blankets and pillowcases. Another possible factor: we use a disinfectant that has Thyme as a major ingredient. This has a somewhat “ashy” smell, but it works great for killing germs. We are both non-smokers, and could not detect the smoke smell ourselves, but sprayed some air freshener (besides the extra cleaning described above), just to be sure. The subsequent guests (two separate parties) who have since stayed at Lakeview house have been very pleased. Again, thank you for helping us to become better hosts!
